Ladies, can we talk washing machines please?

I am so indecisive that I'm giving myself an all mighty headache. :(

I need a new washing machine. My previous one was an 8kg load / 1600 spin speed. I don't really want to go any less than that.

I'd like a bigger drum so I can wash my superking size duvet in it but all the bigger drums seem to be a slightly lesser spin speed (1400). (I'd prefer to stay away from Beko/Indesit etc). I think Hotpoint do a high spec model but I've had poor service from Hotpoint appliances previously and am wary of the quality these days.

So it looks like a toss up between higher spin speed or higher load. Both are important to me (I do a lot of tumble drying) so which do I go for?

Buy a Bosch, if you can't afford a Miele

The difference between 1400 and 1600 spin is very marginal, I doubt you would actually tell the difference.

    Go for the bigger loads

I have my beady eye on one (or 2) of the LG 11kg models.. they are all 1400 spin speed but TBH after about 1200 the benefit is negligible. I often spin mine at 1400 instead of the 1600 my machine can handle as it isnt an option on the programme I am using and it doesnt increase drying time..

If you tumble dry a lot.. though.. I would consider the higher spin speed... and other than the fact they dont make one yet.. I wouldnt have anything other than a Zanussi machine (have had 5 machines in the last 10 years.. I have 2 at a time) and all have been fabulous.. but when they die, they die dead!).. I have had awful experiences with Hotpoint, the electrolux brands and makes like beko are just bin fodder! I wouldnt give them house room. I would consider a Samsung (noisy but reliable apparently) bosch, LG, Miele, AEG but the hammer my machines get I need them to be top rate.

My previous one was a Bosch. It was incredibly noisy due to poor design with regard to where the shock absorbers were sited. After buying it I read loads of reviews saying the same thing, I wish I'd read them first. I also had to replace the brushes on it quite early. It wasn't a lower spec model either, It's maybe 3 years old now but was one of the top models at that time, and was quite expensive. I think I'd like to try a different brand now, I wasn't fantasically impressed with my Bosch tbh.

It was an LG 11kg model I was looking at too pigpen, I believe there is to be a 1600 introduced but I need one now and can't wait.

I think it was Jackieglasgow (sorry if I'm wrong) who has one of those LG machines and loves it. If I needed a new one I'd get an LG/Bosch. I've got a bosch now, had it 4 years, never missed a beat.

Post in the arms, laundry threads run and run there... there was a really good one about what was in your last load a while back.

not sure but i t think a high spin speed is best otherwise the washing will come out too wet.

    Please avoid Hotpoint!!!

I have a Miele and LOVE it( i know it is an inanimate object, but i really do!), i would choose Miele, Bosch or maybe LG at a push.

I recently had to buy a new machine, I looked at the LG belt driven one, but went for a Zanussi in the end. I found this site quite good and they answer any questions you ask quickly. http://www.appliance-reviews.co.uk/Washing-Machines/Reviews

Nope. Ladies do not talk washing machines. Laundry is a blue job.

I will ask Mr Spirit if he will come on for a chat, but it is doubtful as MSE is pink work.

I've got a Hotpoint (only because my Zanussi died over Christmas one year and I needed one in a hurry) and I won't buy another. The Zanussi was great, but gave up the ghost after about seven years (which is not surprising given the amount of washing I do). Hotpoint is now part of the Indesit Group so there's your answer for the quality!

Just got one, so far it's ace. I keep loading it and thinking it can't possibly take any more, and it tells me it's only 2/3 full.
