Hi,
Would like to know this too, but I am in Trust deed at the moment.
How long do you have to reclaim bank charges?

Quick answer is yes. The key is the charges have to be proportionate to the amount of work involved and as this is normally between £2-£4 then you are well within your rights. Follow the templates in this site as they've worked for me. You can only go back 6 years though. Good luck.0

Hi guys,
Sorry to bother you. I have a quick question regarding bank charges. My Mum went bankrupt just over a year ago (Scotland) and had a joint bank account with my Dad. They incurred quite a few charges. The account has now been closed I think. Can they reclaim the charges?
Sorry if it seems like an obvious question. Thanks in advance :beer:Member #4 of the DMP Mutual Support Club - DFW Nerd #335

Anyone can claim BUT remember that the OR might have an interest in any monies claimed back.
Because it's joint, maybe just your dad could claim and get around it that way?:: BCSC #71 but now discharged! ::0 -

A few years ago, I was pushed into bankruptcy by the Inland Revenue for non-payment of taxes.
Apart from having the hassle of my bank giving me excess charges for going overdrawn on my account, at the same time as the stress from the inland revenue. I feel that the bank charges were all contributary factors to my bankruptcy.
My question to this forum is:-
Is it worth pursuing my old bank for repayment of my charges from this period, and damages for the assistance of pushing myself into bankruptcy?
Any info. would be gratefully received!0 -

Best getting legal advice. It could be a complicated and expensive case to bring with a small chance of winning.0 -
Should any bank charges you successfully reclaim (hypothetically) no go towards the bad debts you left behind when becoming bankrupt i.e. the Inland Revenue etc.
If the bank charges were incurred before you went bankrupt and you have drawn a line under this and started from scratch again then shouldn't you just get on with getting yourself back on track?0 -
Hi im very new to forums so please accept my apologies if I have done this all wrong. lol.
I was made bankrupt about 4 years ago. I fell into the typical trap of customers not paying on time, with direct debits being paid (incurring bank charges) or I would lose the service of a supplier.I was paying huge bank charges on a monthly basis. In my honest opinion this was a major contributor to my bankruptcy. Can anybody advise me if i can still put forward a claim for my bank charges for the 2 years prior to my bankruptcy?
Thanks guys, and many thanks to Martin and his team. Great job, keep it up.
