Sky tv package reshuffle

  • I have the basic package (£19.50 pm) and called on Saturday to make a complaint about the installation a few weeks ago.
The gentleman on the phone told me that if I took out the kids channel for £1 pm extra then come Sept I would have all 6 of the packages for £20.50 pm. The price is frozen for 12 months too.
Thought this was a good deal!

Well I have the variety pack, style & culture and the kids pack - £21.50

I also had the 2 months free movie offer, which I have cancelled now within the 31 days notice period so that should be removed by sept 11th.

I just phoned today to ask about the new packages and to remove the variety pack and style & culture pack.
I was told to do this they would have to take the movies out of cancellation and then put them all in cancellation together. So therefore I would have to pay for the movies for 1 month I guess...

I didn't choose to cancel yet ....but now thinking about it maybe I should as I would only pay 1 month extra for movies then have my bill reduced to £19.50 for 12 months (i think)

Hi, You shouldn't have accepted it for £16.50. A few months ago I cancelled everything with sky but then I kept on receiving calls of them and also offer letters with everything for :rotfl:half price:rotfl:

I just received a half price offer letter of them even though I've joined them last week for £25/month which includes Movies, Sports and entertainment channels. Normally they sell it for £52/month but I removed News and Event(£1) and Music(£1) channel, so that come down to £50/month, then with half price offer it comes £25.

With the Half-price offer for 12 months, actually once you have accepted this offer, you are not exactly tied up for 12 months, you could cancel with 30 days notice.

    Hope it helps some one.

I already had 12 months at half price so thats why i was ringing to cancel - and as i had had 12 months half price they said this was the best offer they give me - did think of pushing it a bit more but im trying to sort out about going to them soon for phone line - calls n broadband so thought that i may have more of a bargaining tool to use with them then lol :rotfl:

You should only pay for the part of the month you've used - mine was due to cancel on 17th Sept now it's 22nd - so I'm only paying for 5 days worth.

It's all a bit of a screwup for me, it seems. Last week I called to cancel movies (had the two months free, have to cancel 30 days in advance). The guy offered the movies for 6 months at half price, and said I would still get my second month free before the new offer kicked in. I said fine.

Called today to cancel all but Knowledge. The lady told me that in order to get all the mixes next month when the packages change, I would need Variety, too. Said she had checked into this a couple of times. That's not what others have said on here, and from looking at the Entertainment Extra pack, it sure seems like you wouldn't need the Variety, too. So I said I'd just go with Knowledge and hope I don't get a nasty surprise by losing channels next month.

And here comes the big screwy mess. She then says that I have 20% off on my account for the next 6 months, and if I downgrade my mixes, then I lose the other offer. I said no, I was told movies were half price. Turns out they accomplished that by giving me 20% off on my account. So she looks into it and comes back and says that in this instance I can keep the 20% discount and downgrade my mixes. THEN she tells me the price of my next bill, and it turns out that I WILL be charged for my second month of "free" movies, that when I accepted the 20% offer (which I didn't even know was a 20% offer), it cancelled any other offers.

Also, I had planned on calling when my 1-year contract ends in a couple of months to see if I can get a 50% discount as others have. Now it sounds like that since I am on the 20% offer, they surely won't make me another offer. Kinda annoyed. The movies are fairly crap, but there are a couple on there worth seeing so thought I'd try this for a few months and cancel. I may have to seriously consider actually switching to Virgin when my contract is up, as I really don't like being messed about.

Edit: Just checked, saw a bill came out today that is 10 quid more than last month's bill. !!!!!!?

ohh, thanks guess if I do it today, I will pay for an extra 11-12 days of movies ...I will downgrade then and remove them all together and keep the kids.

And as I understand I must do this before sept 1st for my bill to be frozen at £19.50.

Based on all this, if you downgrade later, by say cutting out movies, will that screw up the price freeze on your entertainment mixes? Meaning you'll go from 19.50 up to 24.50 automatically? Does anyone know? If so, I guess I'd do better to just cancel movies now and be done with it. And will probably then end up paying full price of 16 quid for the next month of them. Crap.

Also when I phoned today, the sky advisor questioned why did I want to remove the variety and style & culture pack, do I not watch them? ... I stated yes I do but I won't need them once they switch me over to the entertainment extra package.

He then said it is possible that I could be without these channels for 2 months as the switchover to the new packages may not happen straight away for every customer and that some ppls accounts may not be changed till october or even november ....and he said it will take longer because they have to do them all manually.

Uh-oh, that would suck! I may need to call back and add variety after all...sheesh, I wonder what that will mess up, lol.
