I made baked pears for dinner last week. I halved 3 dessert pears, keeping the core in. Put them in an oven proof dish, add a knob of butter, a teaspoon of honey, a dash of cinnamon and a teaspoon of brown sugar. put in the oven while dinner is cooking, turning and coating a couple of times. They will take about 20-30 minutes depending how high the oven is. Yummy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I regularly find pears in the reduced section, and got a bag for 15p the other day, very OS!
  • Just wanted to add my microwave chocolate brownie variation to this collection for anyone who's interested-

    110g SR flour
    100g marg
    100g sugar (granulated will do)
50g any old cheap dark choc
    2 beaten eggs
    1/2 tsp vanilla extract/essence
    pinch of salt

Cooking times based on my own microwave which is 850 watt-

Place choc in microwavable bowl. Nuke for 2 mins. Add marg. Nuke for a further minute. Add sugar, eggs and vanilla extract. Stir. Fold in flour and salt. Nuke for 3 minutes or until middle is set but still nice and moist.

Feed to 6 hungry people :D

Really moist and delicious chocolate brownie in a matter of minutes. Absolutely gorgeous with a blob of vanilla ice cream :D
Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

  • Greek yoghurt (Total one is best); stir in some cherry compote and top with some toasted flaked almonds - almost instant pudding (or breakfast!) and it tastes delicious. :D

You can also use fresh fruit and honey in season (raspberries, cherries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries are all good) instead of the compote.

If you want to make it look nicer (eg for guests), serve it in a glass and do layers of fruit/compote and yoghurt or swirl compote through it.

Milk puddings are good something like semolina with jam, tapioca, macaroni or you could make a quick jam sponge in the microwave and serve with custard.

Fruit crumbles? My fave are apple, rhubarb and blackberry and apple but you can get away with various combinations.

  • Rice pudding? My DH loves this, and it's cheap and filling. I sometimes make it if I have too much milk, but the value tins are only something like 13p for two servings.
  • I sometimes cut up a cheap maderia cake add some jam and cover in custard, not as cheap as the other suggestions maybe but filling
    2012 bring it on!;)
