  • Welcome back from your holiday, thriftlady. I suggest you read the book, paraphrase all the bits you know you could have written better, omit all the stuff you don't reckon, add in your own bits, wait a year or two and nobody will know. By that time it truly will be your own book, anyway. People do this all the time, as well as nicking recipes, as I'm sure you know.

I'm always planning to write a book called "Advice - the Best Way to do Everything" but think I'm squandering all my material on MSE !

I think your experiment with the wartime rations is worthy of print. The thread became so interesting I felt a huge hole when it finished. The extracts from the letters, everything about it was so worth reading.

I think the basis for a good book is there. Maybe volunteers could do the wartime rations thing and add their spin on how they got on.

With more and more emphasis on 'being green' and healthy eating it could become another bible for the thrifty - with interesting bits about the war and how being oldstyle affects our lives now.

Any help you want is out here thriftlady. :T

My local library has got a webpage on the county website called www.<county>.gov.uk and I think all counties should have one ;)
One thing that you can do on the webpage is suggest any books for a "buying list" that you would like to see them stock :D
I've never needed to do this myself yet so I don't know what happens after that or how long it can take but the library staff should be able to help...
    It's just a thought ;)

I've been trying to get a copy of a old book called "Feed Your Family for £4" or the updated version "Feed Your Family for £5" but this is still over 10yrs old
So when Amazon came up with this new book which sounds like it's trying to do the same thing I thought it would be better to try a modern book first...
As I'm still struggling to get to grips with OS cooking values when I don't like cooking I posted it for anyone who might be in a simiar situation or just starting out :D

If anyone is planning to buy it, but aren't ordering over £15 for free delivery at amazon, it is cheaper at play.com as the postage is free (if you ge my drift). And at play you can get 2% cashback at quidco http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/3400358/-/Product.html?searchstring=9781905862153&searchsource=0
