  • Thanks for pointing this book out, Mics_chick. Pregnancy well and truly kicked me off the OS wagon and I'll have to get back on track after the baby is here as we can't afford not to for long!

That new one looks good but will wait till I have flicked through it in the library before committing money to another cook book.
I have bernadine lawrence's £5 a day book (it is also held together with sticky tape)and found it was hugely useful but we didn't follow the weekly meal plans. We just used her own main meal recipes to make a change and they were pretty filling for 4(2 small ,2 big).
My son loves the whole fruit cake and would make it himself from about age 10.
Her suggestions for breakfast and lunch are a little sparse but the main meal section was good.
  • regarding vitamins:
vitamins A,D,E and K are all fat-soluble so can only come in fat part of our diet. That doesn't mean that fat is good for you, but "good" fats from things like nuts, seeds, olives and so on are a vital part of a healthy diet. most foods contain a bit of fat. Im no expert on nutrition but this is what I was taught in Nurse training. We were also taught that Vitamin C is the only one that cannot be stored by the body and so for best health we need a bit every day. I dilute my semi- skimmed by about 5% as we go through at least 5 pints a day.
earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:
  • Does anyone know when this book is released please?
    Many thanks.

I notice that on the Amazon page for the book the OP mentions, you can buy both that book and Martin Lewis' Thrifty Ways for Modern Days as well for £15.58!

  • I've just received an email from Amazon telling me the release date for this book has been delayed, but it didn't say by how long.

It was supposed to be 28th September but as Hester has said it's been postponed without any details of when it's likely to be

I think your experiment with the wartime rations is worthy of print. The thread became so interesting I felt a huge hole when it finished. The extracts from the letters, everything about it was so worth reading.
    :T
Oh, this sounds interesting. Being a newbie, I'm still trying to find my way around the forum. Could anyone point me in the direction of the mentioned thread please?
