Evilsquid this is something that trips me up too. I think doing SW on a tight budget would be an excellent discussion point for your group when you get it!

I'm not on benefits but our food budget is EXTREMELY tight because we know we have massive heating bills coming in soon. It's harder in the winter months because a lot of widely-used veg in SW recipes e.g. peppers aren't really cheap right now and I care about things like food miles too. It's not easy at all. And meat is getting very expensive :( Much as I'm trying to stick to principles right now, I can't help but feel it'll be easier in the summer with more of an abundance of local veg to cook!

I find some SW recipes really expensive too!! some of the fish recipes are ridiculously priced..

Do you eat cous cous, lentils or bulgar wheat - all pretty cheap and can be added into stews or salads to bulk out the more expensive items. If you are doing green days, then all these sort of meals would be free and you wouldn't have to have the 1/3rd superfree element with them.

    Green day for me today
    B - poached eggs on toast(heb)
L - jacket and pasta n sauce, cheese (hea)
T - pizza (made with scone recipe)(Hea for cheese) and chips

I haven't got round to making this pizza yet but it will happen tonight. It better be good now i've built it up so much! :rotfl:
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

Alexelisey meat has gone ridiculous recently! thats why i like green days so if i do buy it, i can divide it up into raw HEB portions and freeze the other portions if i won't eat them in the next day or two. i get 4 meals out of one packet with 2 salmon fillets in and most beef/lamb steaks get me two meals too. EE is all very well but i cant justify eating a whole salmon fillet when i know i can get another meal out of it and just bulk the meal out with (cheaper) potatoes etc. it also means i make 1/2 the portion of sauce so i save syns there too!

could you maybe try only eating one or two bits in the evening if you are really hungry and see if that makes a difference?

are you eating it because you are really hungry or is it purely to reach the 1/3 SF over a day? if its that, can you try green days or red so you don't feel you "have" to eat the extra because the 1/3 SF rule doesn't exist? i think EE can trip people up because they have the temptation to add on loads of fruit to reach the 1/3 SF over a day when its better for weightloss to have mostly 1/3 veggies. thats why i don't understand the 1/3 SF rule, 1/3 of a meal as veggies is a brilliant plan but eating a free meal and then thinking "i have to eat 1/3 of that meal again in SF, so i'll have loads of fruit as snacks" seems counterintuitive to me, especially if the meal filled you up and you wouldn't have had that fruit normally if you didn't know about the 1/3 rule.

Yes, I think I will cut down in the evenings, it is just because it is there really and is replacing what I would normally have had as a snack, such as a small custard, bag of crisps or a biscuit. More habit than hunger I think.

I have just counted up all my syns for last week and it comes out at 89, so under the limit, and reasonably evenly spread apart form the wine at the weekend. I write everything down too, so I will cut out the excessive fruit and cut the wine down this weekend and see where that gets me.

I also find it quite an expensive diet to follow, but I try and buy reduced things. Try a few local supermarkes between 1700- 1900 and you can often get half price meat and fish, and then store it in the freezer. Over christmas I got 4 packs of casserole steak for 70p each, intead of £3.70., plus some reduced lean minced beef steak and a brisket joint of beef for the freezer.

This week I managed to get reduced fruit and veg as well, 1/3 of the original price for nectarines, apples, raspberries, potatoes and mixed stir fry veg.

Sainsburys have different fruit and veg each week for £1, this week there is packs with cauli and broccoli florets, bags of carrots and bags of white grapes all at £1. They also had buy one get one free on yellow plums which I think is SS and 2 punnets of nectarines for £3. Try to see what I like on special in terms of fruit for the week but it is more difficult for veg and meat when you need specifics for recipes.

Also sainsburys had 10 muller lights for £3 which was good.

Have meal planned for week ahead and bought all the food this morning. We have home-made burgers and chips for dinner and I have a salad to go with it - home they are yummy!

Well I have decided I really do want to follow the SW plan but I need to work it around my DS first, so last couple of days I have been eating as normal and once I work my meal plan out I will be following it very closely. No point trying if it's only half an effort. I think I will miss group next week as it is DD's birthday Wednesday, so will start after that just hope my consultant doesn't mind...what do you guys think?

    Also thanks Debs :)

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

*Sneaks in & sees a lot of new faces*

Well Its been a while since I posted.....and an awful lot has been happening for me so I'd best update you lovely lot.

My mum went into hosp while they took her off her meds to try control her blood clottingtimes prior to doing her mastectomy, I'm happy to say after quite a risky & tricky op (she can't have general anasthetics) she has just come home today smile.gif she has to stay at my brothers for a couple of weeks where they will get some care in to help look after her....but at least we have her back home, we just have to wait & see now what the results are on the bodyscans/tests going forward as she is too unwell to have any chemo & they can't guarantee that the cancer hasn't already spread elsewhere frown.gif

My MIL - despite being told she wouldn't see xmas....is still hanging on in there, bless her. The stent they fitted is allowing 'sloppy foods' & nourishment drinks to get through her bowel now and past the tumour.

MrDizzy went in for his 1st spine operation 2 days after my mum had her mastectomy (my stress levels were thru the roof that weekfrown.gif) he is doing pretty good & hopefully the docs/physios say he may be allowed home early next week.....but may be on crutches - that could prove either funny or a disaster having both of us on crutches fighting for floor space eh :rotfl:

I meanwhile have still been stuck looking after BILs dogssigh.gif whilst trying to visit 2 different hospitals & a poorly MIL who keeps going into the hospice while they sort her medications....really really hard work when I'm still not too mobile myself & have no transport. Thankfully though my good friend has been a rock and driven me all over - while my nephew has taken the dogs out when hes finished work-and also run me over to hosp when he could too.

Diet wise.....well its been the last thing on my mind to be honest redface.gif and I stopped going to class as I simply had no time. I stepped on the scales at the hosp today and I'm back up to 11st, just over a 1/2 stone gain since xmas time, so I think now things are settling back down I need to get a grip & try start again.

So here I am....back here in the care of my lovely online friends who I hope with the help of the DIZZY TANK will keep me on the straight & narrow ;) not sure when I will be able to re start at a group, it all depends on when MrD can drive again really I think....so I'm going it alone just for now. x x
  • Hi guys....not posted for a few days and just catching up with the abundance of posts! I really love reading through them!!!

Hello Dizzy....so many people have been sending you healing and positive vibes....I didn't know who you were but from your post I can see why...hope things continue to get better quickly :A and you can get back on track...what a great weight loss already!! xx

Well after another disaterous week (I really am beginning to sound like a broken record) I have (and I fear this time, by the skin of my teeth) stayed the same!

So, in the oh so sabotaging way, I decided to have a huge piece of the pie I made for DH and DD for my dinner (doh...). I keep hitting this point and getting stuck - and the worse thing is it's my own fault....

Oh dear...here's to another week and hopefully one where I can be lighter and brighter by the end!

    Fc xx

SOOOOOOOOOO glad to hear from you Dizzy, have been so concerned as knew you were having such a hard time. Glad to hear Mum is home & recuperating with her family. Also good to hear MIL is still here & fighting, must be a strong willed woman. Hope Mr D is on the mend soon and back home before you know it. Can just see you two crutch fighting :rotfl:
As for SW I think you can be forgiven the gain as sometimes life is more important than food.

REALLY pleased you're back driving the tank, its been a bumpy few months while you've been gone. Think we lost a few along the way when they fell out the back door, really need to get them hinges fixed :rotfl:

So take it eazy and let us help motivate you just like you have done for us :A:A:A:A:A:A

    *totters into room*

*looks round room * Gosh! There are a lot of new faces - brilliant - more people to chat with th_JC_goody.gif

I have had a nasty virus ill.gif Started just after Christmas and I have still got the remnants of the cough smiley-rolleyes008.gif Just to add insult to injury I came down with a head cold last Sunday. I didn't know a nose could hold that much snot smiley-rolleyes008.gif

Had a good Christmas but the good living had to stop - I made the decision not to weigh until the end of January. I know myself and if I had put on megga pounds I would get discouraged and just keep on eating. Anyways - weighed on the 28th of January (up 5lbs ) - it was DH's birthday and we were going to pick up our 'new to us' motorhome toot.gif from Bridlington and have fish and chips on the harbour wall th_smiley-ashamed005.gif Called at a farm shop on the way home and bought some magnificent burgers so had cheese burgers for tea th_smiley-ashamed005.gif So that day was not a particularly SW friendly day smiley-ashamed005.gif

Well Sunday saw me back on track and in it for the long haul. Son and partner got engaged during January so I have a wedding to prepare myself for. I really would like to slink around a bit smaller than I am.

WI day for me today and thankfully I am

    -2lbs

    hapydancsmil.gifcheerleader3.gifhapydancsmil.gifcheerleader3.gifhapydancsmil.gif

I have never been so glad to see the scales drop - I was reasonably confident as I have been on plan all week but there is still that element of doubt smiley-rolleyes008.gif

Right folks - time to sort myself out and get dressed ready to help with the snow clearing!

Morrisons Lamb Shank in red wine sauce with mashed carrot and swede for lunch so really looking forward to that one - nom nom nom!

Dizzy - good to hear from you, you have been in our thoughts. You have been through such a difficult time it is no wonder you haven't been on plan!

Mags - congrats on the loss :j

I have been out walking the dog in the snow, he absolutely loves the snow. Must have burnt off a few calories.
