  • Well into a dreadful week....how many syns can I have in one day....this has to be the worst week I''ve had since restarting.....why oh why do I sabotage myself, I know alot of us do it and it's so easy to give advice to others but when it comes to telling myself I'm absolutely carp!!! :wall::sad::cry::cry::sad:

I've gone down two clothes sizes overall and am feeling fnatastic (up until this week, think it may be a bit of the TOTM too)

Oh dear feeling hopelessly out of control...and why is it men just don't understand and end up making you feel worse.....

Oh well moan over - sorry emotional week and woke up this morning feeling sooo bad. Have beetroot salad and chicken waiting for me at work so hopefully the crumpets i've just eaten may be todays only blip...

Will try an hour on the treadmill later if I can be bothered......will really try!

    Thanks for listening. xxxx :A

  • Hi Prepareathome - I think I know what you are going through (not from personal experience but with someone very close to me).

Firstly you have to stop looking at the bigger picture because that is not going to do you any good emotionally and will have a reverse effect.

You have to look at this as babysteps - a baby doesn't get up and run, he gets up - stands on two feet, maybe takes a side step but is still holding on and continues doing this for a few days, even a few weeks, before he has the confidence to let go. Then he will take a couple of hesitant steps forward and plops back down on his bottom but he doesn't give up - he gets back up and tries those two steps again and very slowly he's off and taking bigger steps forward.

We can all learn from this but if you are suffering from what I think you are this is how you need to go forward.

It sounds like your current diet is extremely carb laden - when you do eat. Make a list of the fruit you like and if you can't get out to get it yourself ask your OH or a friend to get 3 or 4 pieces of 2 or 3 different kinds from the list. Then do the same with the veggies. Then have a look at the food lists from SW and choose those that you think you can prepare easily and get those in.

Now while you're lying in bed with your computer on your lap open up a new Word document and start to plan a day - breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack - these don't have to be big meals if you can't cope either with making or eating them but try and put the fruit and veg in first and build it from there and you will soon have not only a good plan but you will have achieved a major big step.

Once you are eating more healthily hopefully your energy levels will change and you'll be able to make small changes in other areas.

We're all here for you and everyone wants to help each other so feel free to voice your frustrations - no-one is judging you or wanting to give you a kick up the ****.

    Good luck {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}

OMG FC I could have written this so many times. It's so hard to be positive and stop beating ourselves up - but remember, like dieting, we're trying to break bad habits we've built up over a lifetime in some cases.

WE ARE NOT BAD PEOPLE - WE ARE NOT STUPID PEOPLE - WE ARE NOT WORTHLESS PEOPLE

We have an illness and we have to heal but it takes time and most of us have relapses along the way.

Can you take yourself out for a walk rather than getting on the treadmill - the fresh air has amazing powers.

OK - I know I need to take a leaf from my own book but like the rest of us we all have the answers - we just have to learn to put into practice what we all preach!!!!!

Yes it's national hugs day - anyone else want some?????????? ;)

  • Prepareathome - a lot of people on here post their daily eating on here - why don't you try it?

That way we can see what you're eating and someone may be able to offer a suggestion or two!

WI last night - lost 1.5lbs - and I'm quite chuffed, although I still haven't lost all the Christmas weight!

Last week is this temporary consultant's last then we get someone else for 6 weeks and then we get a new one! It's taken a while!

So I suggested a taster evening :D- cos we haven't had one in a while... we didn't have any sort of Christmas celebration:(:(.

So now what can I take in......

  • snag is been snacking for a few years not eating proper meals and tummy gets full very quickly then hungry again an hour later - any tips gratefully received.

how can I get out of this habit, just easier to eat a sandwich than a meal

a sandwich can be a balanced healthy meal! you have fibre, carbs, protein if you have some form of meat, salad and if you have say ham and cheese theres dairy in there too.

could you aim for 4/5 smaller "meals" a day? maybe a sandwich, some cereal, a salad type thing, a small portion of meat like a chicken leg or a healthy ready meal or can of soup you can easily reheat? that would keep you going and if they are really easy to grab you might not be as tired as you would be when cooking a whole meal from scratch. also then when you get hungry you know you have another meal to eat and won't be tempted to "snack" as such.

    we've all been there!

men just don't get it because they don't have the ingrained "you should be a size zero!!!!" that women get every day from all angles. i know i find it hard dealing with the fact i find SW hard at times yet we get celebrities claiming left right and centre that they don't like exercise and eat fried chicken like all the time
  • Hi all I've been lurking on here for about a yr but decided to join so that I can try and offer some help to prepareathome.
Your message really struck home so hope I can help.
I have me/cfs and was diagnosed a yr ago. I spend most of my days in bed or lying on the sofa and like you struggle to find the energy to prepare food. I was already overweight when I got ill but realised pretty quick that eating easy to prepare snacks combined with no exercise was making me gain weight quickly and so joined sw online. I lost 3 stone last yr at home and after a blip at Xmas I have decided to go to classes with my sister so I can't be tempted to avoid weigh in day!
I sometimes get 'me brain' so I apologise in advance if I don't make sense but this is what I do to keep on the sw tank!

Don't buy any readyto eat snacks/food without checking the syns first. I do my shopping online with sw online open too so I know exactly how many syns are in each item. I normally go for things like mugshots, pasta and sauce, smash, mr t simply cook meatlike lamb shanks. This means if I feel really bad I always have a proper meal that can be made in a couple of mins with no effort.

I buy a lot of frozen veg. I much prefer fresh but frozen stuff comes ready chopped and just needs a couple of mins in the microwave. Much easier than standing and chopping everything.

I try to make meals that either go in the slow cooker or oven and require very little prep or concentration while cooking. Stuff like soup in the s/c or stews, chili, cottage pie - you can just chuck all the bits in and leave it alone. I also do easy meals such as pasta with low fat condensed soup for sauce with just frozen veg added or meat with a bag of ready made salad. I always try to make more so I can freeze portions and just reheat in the microwave.

Also I try to snack regularly to avoid the starving feeling when I know I'm more likely to stuff my face with choc or buttery toast. I'll
have fruit in a bowl with a yoghurt, scan bran cake ( not the nicest cake but does help with weight loss) , cereal bars, pitta bread (coop wholemeal ones) with cheese or a fried egg or I feel a bit more energetic then meat and salad.

Most importantly I trained my live in boyf to cook the sw way!! He will quite often make dinner if he's home early enough and knows all the 'rules' so uses frylight and measures cheese etc. We always have a discussion to check what he's putting in but he's pretty good because be knows it's important to me. He doesn't need to lose weight so he usually eats with me and then sneaks off to the kitchen for toast or marmalade sandwiches if he's peckish.

I hope this helps. It's easy to get disheartened when medical problems make it even harder to lose weight but I tell myself that I can't expect to lose weight as quickly as someone who goes to the gym 3 times a week or does the dreaded 'shred' DVD but as long as I stay on plan the weight will come off eventually and by eating better I'm giving my body the best chance of recovery.

    We will get there eventually!!

thanks again everyone for all the words of support and advice, :A

i know it was still a loss....and i have to just get on with it..

last night i didnt walk, i went for 40mins on my exercise bike, followed by 100 resistant band "stretches", on all different areas, arms, legs, chest etc

10 mins this morning on my bike again, and i will do my shorter walk tonite, (2 miles) i will stick with it, i know i will and i know i have to,

i know i can cut AWAY back on portion size, at the mo, i dont exercise any portion control, our consultant keeps saying "if its a free food, its unlimited", so i find myself eating 4 / 5 potatoes, 4 slices of bacon (fat off of course), 3 SW Sausages, mugshot soup, 3 muller lites, :o(thru the day...not all at once :D) etc...so i know i can cut back here if the losses remain slow.

had 12.5 syns yest, lets see what monday brings

syns are all per portion on EE....prices 1.75 single portion to 6.00 for a family of 4 soups, for mains 3.00 to 16.00. not bad......

tuscan bean & rosemary soup 1/4 syn
    leek & potato soup free
plum tomato & basil soup free

roasted veg & herb pasta 1/4 syn
fresh salmon fishcake & winter slaw free
fresh mountain lamb & veg caserole 1/4 syn
chicken & pasta & baked veg free
thai chicken curry, coriander & garlic rice free
king prawns & fish in a rich tomato sauce free
chicken & wild mushroom risotto free
king prawn & mussel risotto free
    butternut squash risotto free

so in theory one could order 5 lunches to have for work every day ;) he is cashing in!!! and its only his 2nd week in class :rotfl:

Thanks saidan, they sound like proper restaurant meals. I could murder the lamb casserole!!
Yup, instant mash is free! Obviously if you buy a fancy type with added butter (if they exist?) then it's not free. Some people make a pizza base from instant mash, I've heard.

People at my group swear by the very cheapest Asda SP mash for pizza bases etc.

OK I've put yesterday behind me

I realised that perhaps I need a "free" day once a week to keep me on the straight and narrow the rest of the time. I don't eat more than about 5 or 6 syns a day during the week so maybe my body needs that extra. It certainly didn't hinder the weightloss last week and we'll see if it has any effect this week.

That should leave you about 70 syns to have treats at the weekend. That's roughly the way I got to target myself. I don't have days off as such (unless away from home and then I do my best), just treats with syns with my SW menu or a flexi meal if I'm out. So on a Saturday, I might have a SW curry with free chips and rice but have a bit of mango chutney and a pakora and a glass of wine for my dinner but a syn free breakfast and lunch. I find it gives me something to look forward to, stops life becoming a dreadmill!;)

    My EE menu today:
B: NAS squash, HEB toast, HEA milk for teas, baked beans
L: stir fry veg (and maybe some rice noodles if hungry)
D: chicken casserole with leeks, onion, carrot, mushrooms and butter beans served with broccoli and potatoes
Syns: tbsp cornflour shared with DH
  • Ditzen, I want to thank you very, very much for coming out of lurkdom to post for me, you post is a real inspiration - I was slim before I took ill, well became the way I am now as I had the condition long before I knew I had it and had never had to diet in my life as I was always on the go but have put on 4stone over the 6 or so years I have had to spend so much time in bed. hi all - welcome to the newbies

prepare at home - i have a very serious health condition and find SW okay to work around that.
planning is the key - plan the menu for the week, shop online and don't put goodies in the basket.
buy prepared - all our meat, veg etc is bought ready chopped/skinned/boned whatever. it is more expensive but having it done for you makes it easy. shops like asda do a caserole pack, meat & veg all ready to bung in a pot or slowcooker, add some stock and few hours later dinner is ready. not much effort but a SW meal.

i've sat around eating biscuits, chocs, crisps etc as snacks as it is easier - but to be honest it is just as easy to pick an apple or pear up out of the fruitbowl - keep it well stocked and near you!!

switch to skimmed milk - you get lots more and can still have lots of cups of tea/coffee - i drank like a fish when i was on bedrest!

eggs - these are free and easily cooked......makes an easy meal - omette, fried egg (frylight), poached egg, scrambed....

batchelors - super low fat noodles are free - 4 minutes and done
savorey rice, and pasta n sauce are free or very low syn, 20 mins in a pan and done.......easy easy meals for when you are poorly. the same as making up a sandwich really.

hope this gives you some ideas - it is hard to break through the mentality when you are ill, but i have bags more energy now and am motivated to give it my all :T

AFM - i'm eating again but only potato & pasta - everything else i've tried has made me ill......so still on calorie drinks but adding in meals.

    today green;
    b: 300cal drink, diet coke
l: just had batchelors low fat super noodles
d: will prob have inside of jacket potato.
syns - none as worked out 300cal drink is 15 syns!

    keep loosing everyone
