It might be worth emailing the leader as some do not hold books so you may not be able to buy extra books ie the points guide etc

mm, as you have your friend in the UK doing SW, he would be able to buy you (and post on) any books you need if they aren't available on the night.

ww, I really don't think your portion sizes are a problem. What really matters is that we don't exceed the HE portions. I know you do Green (and I'm pretty ignorant on that) but with my EE I just try to keep the f & v portions up in proportion to the free stuff. Officially it's a third but I try to have at least that as it seems a healthy thing to do and verges towards success express.:)

i was always told to eat exactly what my body wants to if I'm hungry. as long as it was free, if i wanted a massive bowl of pasta, then my body wants it for a reason so just eat it.

portions on SW are only a problem when we should really just eat one bowl and go back for two "coz its free". my first consultant used to tell us to use a whole pack of bacon on our bacon butties "coz its free" and if you said you only wanted 2 or 3 slices you got a "whhaaaaatttt? its free!!!!" off everyone in group. one of my mums friends is doing it at home and regularly munches her way through 6 mini babybels in one go as a snack "coz its allowed" and doesn't understand why she doesn't loose weight.

I think it may be more like £10 for the first visit mm (£5 joining and £5 class fee) and that will give you the books and talk. The talk will mainly focus on EE plan. Unfortunately once you stop going you won't be able to access website for syn values. But we can, so just ask! BR's exactly right about the free joining voucher in magazines. That's always been the case before. If we see one that lasts 'til Feb, I'll let you know.

Will you be staying with your SW friend? Wouldn't that be great to be fed all SW friendly food?:D

Thanks maman and BR that's exactly the information I was looking for and it would be great if you do see an advert if you could let me know then I can get my mum to buy it for me. My SW friend lives in London and I'll be staying with my family in Glasgow. I'm going to go down to London for one night in the middle though and will see him - the last time I saw him was 4 months ago at my son's wedding so it'll be great to see the difference.

That's a great suggestion cookie - thank you - but do you think she might be a bit put out that I'm only coming for one or two meetings?

I actually understand that evilsquid as I had a day yesterday when I was "starving" the whole day. I'd made some w/m pasta for lunch and for the kids - used what I needed and left the rest for them - I then went back and ate what was left and felt really guilty because I felt that I shouldn't have eaten all that pasta. I think the thing is if you eat lots of veggies with it and keep to the 2/3 free foods idea then it's a really balanced meal and exactly what you should be doing.

  • I had a bit of a mixed bag of a day yesterday although I think in the end it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I know if I wasn't writing things down I would have eaten way more than I did but I'm conscious of everything I'm eating and really really want to get things right this time - I've spent way too many years playing the yoyo game!

B –cheese & onion omelette – 2 eggs, onion, 42g mozzarella; banana (HEA)
    S – fruit – 2 oranges, 2 persimmon, banana
L – stir-fried brussel sprouts, w/m pasta, tomatoes, courgette, spring onions with soya sauce
S – 2 slices w/m bread, 2 tblspns humous, tomato, avocado (HEB); another snack of w/m pasta, avocado & techina; 2 handfuls of sultanas (that was the really naughty bit of the day!)
D – Fish Pie - from this month's little booklet - missed out a couple of things just because I didn't have them, changed another but on the whole it was really good but I think I would add some veggies to it next time rather than serving them separately

  • Thanks to everyone for the info on portion sizes!

MM - I got a leaflet through the door yesterday that said free membership and 2 weeks free if you joined from 1-28th Jan, but in the small print on the back it also said that there's "half price membership on standard weekly membership until 5th April 2012 (save £5 on week one)." Making it £5 to join (instead of £10) and £4.95 a week.
    May be of some help?

After yesterday's success I was rewarded this morning with a big no 2! Sorry for the detail but I have been a bit bunged up after the Xmas food and now feel much flatter and "cleaner" if you know what I mean:o

    Today's food will be...
    Breakfast - banana
Lunch - not sure yet, maybe a pasta and sauce?
Dinner - SW mexican potato bake (yummy) includes tomatoes, potatoes, red onion, red pepper
    Snacks - satsumas and grapes

So glad I've decided to come back - I feel in control again!
  • WW you made me laugh - love the detail!

Thanks for the information about the reduced membership, I'll tell my Mum to look out for such a leaflet and obviously in the magazines - I'm sure if they're posting out leaflets they'll be taking advertising space too!

  • Hi all, I'm a newbie to this board so be gentle! I have a wedding in Australia at the end of April and I'm hoping to lose 3 stone by then (I have a lot to lose so I think this is doable). I have decided to give SW a go but at the mo I can't go to meetings. I've bought the Jan/feb mag and kicking off by following the weekly menu plan as closely as I can. I've just had mushroom, tomato and bacon on a slice of toast and I added 50g stilton (xmas leftovers that need using up!) - so how many syns should I put down for the cheese? Thanks all!
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

Mexican Bake - 1 good sized portion
    • Dice up 2 medium sized potatoes into bite sized chunks and boil until almost cooked.
    • Meanwhile, chop up a red onion, red pepper and a couple of cherry tomatoes or a salad tomato and fry with frylight (or dry fry) in a pan.
    • Add a dollop to taste of oregano and stir.
    • Add the boiled potatoes and about about half a carton of passata (enough to liberally coat the veg) and stir through.
    • Put the whole mixture into an oven proof dish and sprinkle grated cheese on the top.
    • Pop it in the oven until cheese has melted and browned (about 200C).
    • Scoff!
If you count the cheese as an A choice its free on a green day.
