Hi all, I really want to start SW, but can't find out enough info! I can't get to a group as I'm pretty much on my own with a child with special needs and have nobody to watch him, and can't afford the £60 - £80 to do it online.

It's all the what can be eaten with what else I find confusing, also syns and HE. The things I eat most of now are cheese, pasta, potatoes (white and sweet), tuna, bread, olive oil and tuna tagliatelle (tag, tuna in oil, onion, mushroom and Elmlea low fat pretendy cream). Also things like gravy, spreads etc...

Really hope somebody can help me get my head around it all, I'm so unhappy with my weight and general look right now, I'm the heaviest I've ever been :(
Saving as much as possible to replace all the things I've had years and are on their way to the knackers yard

    Morning All,

Not posted for a while - but have read all your lovely stories

Not been a very good week SW wise - Tue night was meal out, Wed ended up meal out cos DH decided to leave his keys in collegues van so had to pick him up (and drop him off at 5 in morning!), Thu was ok jacket & omelette, Fri was out with work, Sat was takeaway & Sun was ok apart from stuffing myself with choc

Sat i lost one of my guinea pigs, Willow - she was old but i think the cold night might not have helped & her cage mate, Mia, i was going to try and put with another piggie, Molly, but she wasn't eating & when a piggie doesn't eat it is bad news

Anyway, Molly got brought in on Sat night, by Sun morning she still hadn't eaten so i had to start force feeding her, by 5ish last night i had to call vet as she looked awful, (£82 later) spent most of night with her, trying to get her to feed - this morning she was still bad & wasn't even swallowing her food - just letting it sit in her mouth! So vets again this morning - she is now hospitalised with fluids etc.

Its a waiting game (and glad i still have my credit card as they warned me it could cost up to £200!)

Things we do for our Animals!

Right - back on topic - I am still carrying on with SW but as i am not with it at the mo - going to start a fresh when i get new book!

My mum got her 2.5st award last week - but she is still losing weight even though hit her target over 1/2 stone ago! She is starting to look ill & is having tests at docs - we should know by end of week what is wrong!

Sorry for the rant - just need to get it off my chest

Have a good week everyone! x

ETA: Just had phone call from Vet - Molly passed away :(

The new SW mag is due out this week, (15th December I think). Its always got fab ideas and recipes in and some fab success stories. :j

I don't think I would be motiviated enough to follow an online membership. There are new membership packs due out after xmas -is it practical you for you to attend a class for just one week just to pick up the books ? The plan (extra easy) is explained to you by the consultant and you would have the opportunity to ask any questions.

The books are also available on ebay but sell for lots of £s despite being out of date and second hand. There is also of course lots of useful info on this thread :j

Extra easy is explained better at the beginning of this thread and I am sure there will be older threads that explain the red and green plans.

Also keep an eye out for woman's weekly mags - best, bella etc because they occasionally feature slimming world recipes and sometimes a money off voucher either for group membership or online membership.

To add to what eric said: if you go to the SW website there's a sample 7 day menu on there as well as the one that's always in the magazine.

Looking at what you eat, you need to definitely swap the tuna for one in brine, minimise the cheese, buy a Frylight spray to cut down on the oil. Gravy is OK in moderation (I have it 1/2 times a week max) but better a tomato based sauce.

Syns are things that should be eaten (or drunk) as treats in strict moderation. HEs (Healthy Extras) are things like Bread or Cereals (HEB) and Milk or Cheese (HEA). A fixed amount of these should be eaten every day.

Good luck and well done for deciding to do something about your weight. Do ask any questions you want.

Thanks for all that. I eat tuna in brine most of the time, only in oil when I make the tuna tagliatelle as the onion and mushroom is fried in the drained oil. It's mainly the values for different syns or portion sizes for healthy extras etc. I'll just keep asking if I can't find the info anywhere, I'm sure I'll get used to it all eventually :rotfl:

I'm not sure how the classes really work now, but my friend went a few years ago and she had to pay even if she missed a class so I'm worried I'll get some massive bill through my door!

I had a look at the beginning of this thread, wrote down all the info, I just need to get my head around syns and healthy extras so I can meal plan :D
