Free samples you get from beauty counters also sell - especially if you can get a few of each type. They're perfect for holidays!

Hehehe! I brought a mirror in the style of a porthole from a car boot for 50p and that recently sold for £29!! Also brought some flipflops for £1 and they sold for £9.50! My mums cooker that she wanted £25 for just sold on ebay for £122! It is sometimes unpredictable what will sell well and what you end up giving away for 99p! x
  • I have sold used makeup and perfume - point out very clearly that it is used, say what is left, and make sure it's not off, clean it up nicely, photograph it clearly and start the listing at 99p... it's amazing that people will buy it, but they do, for a couple of pounds.

I once sold half a bottle of st tropez tanner for £9...and the woman who bought it was thrilled - her full name was in her email, and I looked her up on FB... she was bright orange, so obviously got through quite a lot of fake tan :-)

I've been inspired to get back into eBay selling by reading this thread and have had a major clear-out since Christmas. I hadn't sold anything on eBay for a couple of years, and I've been amazed at how much more active it is, and the prices I've been able to get for things - I've flogged off loads of clothes, in some cases for more than I sold for them (designer outlet stuff). I've made about £550 from stuff that I didn't need and won't miss - and it's really made me cut back my spending - after all, if you've just sold a bottle of perfume for £30, you hardly want to go and spend £40 on another one do you?

  • What a great thread :) I do sell on ebay but this is really inspiring. I think i was losing my buzz for ebay but i nipped downstairs and got the bag of items i have been needing to relist and im gonna take the pics now so that bit is done lol.
Things i have sold really well or have noticed sell really well are plus sized clothing, old jewellery wether it be costume or not and a tip i find useful is anything you cant sell on ebay individually, store it away in a box untill you have loads of things then list it as a joblot and on pickup only, I usually store up 100 items which isnt realy that hard considering clothes etc then wack it on as a lot and get between £30 - £60. Aint bad if u were gna bin it!!!

Amazing thread, so much info - what a fab idea...got me thinking about more stuff....things I'd be too embarrased or mortified to sell, apparently may do well!!

As for the car tax discs, I always put the new one in front of old ones so must have loads - apart from vintage/collectable ones, why on earth would people want them...I do worry!

If you have some transport and a little garage space, you can make quite a little money from buying office desks and chairs, either on ebay or Gumtree and selling them with delivery.

The key is that a £50 desk which you can get for £30 or £20 would cost someone without transport around £50 to £100 to have collected.

On gumtree, you can test the market by putting up adverts for things you think will sell before you actually go and buy them.

If you ever get say 20 office chairs, the computer type, real cheap, consider selling them through a high street shop (private, bric a brac type). If you pay £20, then you should be able to get £50 quite easily and you may get the shop to take them off your hands for £35/40. Easy money if you have the time.
