Yes agree with the sequels to dvds am holding off selling my transformers dvd until the second one comes out
  • I had 2 old matching mobile phones that did not work so put them up as non working/spares/repair with starting price of £2 (which I would have been happy getting) I went away for a week, only to come back & find they had sold to a woman in france for £45. I emailed her to make sure it was not a joke or that she knew they were not working but she was fine with it.

Sorry, but I think selling things which are broken beyond repair is a bit disgusting.

Broken but hassle to fix, fine, some people make a hobby of it.

But just plain broken is unfair.

Think how many kids or older people or the techno phobic have by accident bought something that you sold because it's broken.

If you are selling item that dont work or damaged, broken & are honest in the add/description along with pictures & as much detail as poss, then its not disgusting as the person buying knows before they buy it.
  • A couple of years ago I bought a bottle of Larry Hagman J.R Ewing aftershave on ebay, which the seller openly admitted had been sitting in the bottom of their wardrobe for 20 years!! I bought it as a joke present for a friend who had laughed his socks off when he saw it listed. In the end I had to pay about 11.00 to secure the deal! I know I didn't sell it but I was stupid enough to buy it so someone else did alright!

Guess what! I still have one unopened,a little bashed in now lol any offers? :rotfl:

I had a fake moustache that someone gave me as a joke and when I was having a clear out I put it on Ebay. It seemed quite a good one (made out of human hair), but had no idea how much it was worth so I put it up for 99p. I would have been happy with that, but it caused a bit of a bidding war and went for over £6, and I even got a private message asking me to end the auction early for a fixed sum.

I had no idea I would get anything near that, and I'm still laughing about it months later. The world of Ebay is a law unto itself! ;)

I managed to sell half a bag of builder's sand for £2.75 - I wouldn't post it for obvious reasons so the guy came 20 miles to pick it up!

Oh glad to see this being bumped up again this makes for very interesting reading!!
  • I've sold perfume bottles that I had lying around - not even major names, they were all The Body Shop. I'd been given them as presents but I have my favourite perfume(s) that I wear and they'd been sitting on my shelf gathering dust for a few years. Got about £8 each I think.

I've also saved the sachets you get free in magazines that I don't want (I usually use them but sometimes they aren't appropriate, e.g. for brunettes when I'm blonde, for oily skin when I've got dry, etc.) and sold them in a batch of about 7. Only got a couple of quid for them but given that they were free and I was listing other stuff anyway not bad!
(Could possibly do this with some of the MSE freebies too, especially brand names like Nivea or whatever, just make sure it's well advertised that it's a sample and not full size.)

It is surprising what sells on eBay. There are a few tricks and tips I have discovered over the years. If you end an item listing on a Sunday, you are more likely to complete a sale, as people have time to sit in front of the computer to bid (or may simply be hungover, so they bid freely!) I have found that items ending on a Friday or Saturday are generally doomed as people are often out.

I have also found that buyers from far flung areas where there is little access to shopping, are likely to bid for the most unusual items, as opposed to someone living near a city centre. I have had outrageous bid wars from buyers in the outer reaches of Devon and Cornwall, for example. As long at the Royal Mail can deliver it, people from these communties are prepared to bid for it as it saves them the hassle of a long trip to the shops.

I managed to sell a horrible little ornament which my mother had given me. It was really small and therefore didn't cost much to post...a buyer in Europe bought it and even paid the increased airmail postage. I only made £3 or 4 profit on it but its better than nothing for something which I would have happily thrown away!

And I'd second pounds_and_sense's comments above - I find Sunday 11pm is the best time to end an auction, they get alot of bids in the final hour. Also I've rarely posted an item to someone living in London, its usually people living in rural areas that obviously don't have many shops near them. Just shows its worth listing anything as someone in a remote Scottish village might just be waiting to bid on it!
