Hi there peeps- I am new to posting so I hope I do this right.
Have been ebaying for about 15 months now- it's just amazing what sells on there. Couple of eye opener's for me was a tiger picture fleece-blanket (you know the ones from the market that you can get for £2.99 brand new)- sold as used for £11+ to someone in Ireland who was thrilled with it, and also 2 part Diana freebie DVD from weekend papers for £4.99 -paid for the papers and sunday morning croissants whoo-hoo. Now I never throw ANYTHING away till I've tried to sell it at least twice. But as previously stated that heirloom you felt for sure was gonna free you from financial straits forever almost always turns out to be a damp squib- you just have no idea what will/ won't go!! still it's good fun and potentially lucrative!!

I've only dabbled in ebay, but I do really like greenmetropolis for selling books. Last year by selling on Amazon and greenmetropolis I made £85 profit which I was chuffed with - but nothing compared to you other guys!

Time to sort my bits out to sell, I think :) Thanks for the inspirational thread.

  • I have bought brand named TV remotes from car boots and sold them on ebay for profit. You can sell your old remote when you upgrade your TV. Ordering replacement remotes from manufacturers can cost £40 each.
  • A friend of mine saves the offers in papers like 2 for 1 into Alton Towers or kids go free type of thing. They are usually offered a couple of weeks before school holidays. Last year she sold one of the Alton Towers 2 for 1's on Ebay for £18 and another for a tenner.

I was amazed but like she said it is still saving the buyers money.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by this thread - the things that can be sold !!! I am one of those people who always thought "who would buy that ?" and if at all it would be only for 99p so why bother - but some of the stories here have inspired me (a faulty gameboy that was dropped down the toilet ???). I cant wait to get home and ransack the house for stuff to list - not sure whether the wife would be angry (that I am taking the house apart) or happy ( that I am getting rid of clutter for money).

    A couple of questions though
    1) What is the BIN in ebay ?
    2) If I list an item for 99p and it doesnt sell do I still pay the charges on it or will ebay charge only if I sell ?

This is a wonderful post and I see a post of the month nomination for it for inspiring people to start selling junk

BIN is "buy it now" a fixed price. Regarding fees-you pay the listing fee whether or not it sells.

We've sold an 'Ash' cd for £30. An 'Ivor Biggun' cassette for £35 and loads and loads of the snow white toast racks that you got free with utterly butterly or some such..... Ended up giving the marge away to the neighbours but still made a good £8+ profit on each one,

  • I've got a few broken things to sell.
    An iPod Nano
    An old Sky digi box
    A all in one printer.

Think it would be worth putting them on? How much you think I'll get??

The best way to tell is to do a search for the items you have. Then when the results come up, it will show you what is already for sale like yours. Ignore that, but look in the column on the left, where there will be a list of checkboxes to limit your search. Click on 'completed listings' and it will show you items like yours that have sold recently. Then you will get an idea of what t he market is like for your item.
