  • depends - sometimes we appoint into the next campaign if there isn't much time left, what campaign are your books? If they are 16, get in contact with your SL and see if she realises the date she gave you was slightly off.

Yep, they're 16. Ok, thanks for the help, I'll contact her to double check :)
  • Just back from trying to collect my books and argh the rain got to an almost hail like state by house no 32 and I had to return home for a bit. Bright side is, out of those 32 houses I have 6 orders :) and I hadnt even left books at 7 of the houses as its either single men or empty houses. Fingers crossed the rest of the street will have just as positive a response!

Brown.Owl, you are very knowledgeable, its great having you on this thread as our guru :D
  • i have learned a lot fast - i am a sales leader and spend most of my days with my area manager - she's in area almost every day prospecting and as i have nothing better to do - i go with her! We talk a lot as we get on really well and i have learned a lot from her. There's still things i'm not sure of, but seeing as i've only been doing avon since campaign 10 and sales leader from 12 - i think i'm doing ok. :) If i know something i'm happy to share, same as i do for all my girls - but i have learned a few things on here from people too. :)

Sent a quick email to my SL and she replied saying that we have the extra day and the orders will still be on time, so all is ok :)

Just another quick question, I'm writing a quick introductory letter to give with my first brochures telling people how to order etc. but one thing I'm a bit stuck on is how can customers order online? I've heard they can do it through Avon Connects, but I don't really know how...? Or should I just tell them to fill the form out or email me with orders?

Also, do people tend to post brochures into their houses or just leave them on the doorstep?

  • Smoosh I have a intro letter I can send you? Only mine is focused on the "let me know if you want it again or not" side of things rather than how to order. I plan with my 2nd drop in 2 and a bit weeks to then go into alternate ways to order and making suggestions of great items to buy. If you would like to see it let me know and I will email it over.

I tend to put my books into most houses if its clear people are living there. If there is a for sale or to let sign or if the house looks like it might be empty, then I put it up against the wall to the side of the door so its clear for them to see on their way in... or still there for me to collect 2 days later :)

Just went around the rest of the houses I didnt get in my first hit. More order woohoo. Over £100 of orders so far from the first drop and a total of 10 new customers. So about 20% of the houses I droped to ordered which isnt bad at all IMO. (although I still have to pick up almost 20 books from people who didnt leave them out and werent in grrr) Will do another drop later tonight or tomorrow to pick up on Monday and hopefully that will go just as well. Fully hoping to hit that £400 min order by the time I get my family and friends orders in and a bit more canvassing done :)

If they order online i've been led to believe you won't get commission. There are e-brochures that people can look at, useful if you don't see your friends all the time, and they can call/text/email etc their order to you.

I tend to post, knocking and introducing yourself is a great way to get to know who will be your customers and who will never want a book from you - saving time in the long run. However my customers are hardly ever in when i'm doing a book drop so i use a cover sheet and ask them if they don't want a book to write their address on the cover sheet, then i will miss them out in future. It works for me. :)

Following the first meeting with my accountant:

I've been told you can claim for petrol/bus fares; Stationary; Phone & internet (don't need to be on a business contract, and can break down the percentage of what you use for work and personal and claim the percentage for work), advertising, etc. Tax return just asks for an amount under several headings, but keep receipts safe in case you get a visit. Much better to give them a huge box of paperwork when they arrive to back up your claim, than not have enough.

Also = £6,000 per year is what you can earn before you pay tax - breaks down to £333.33 per campaign includes any tax credits you get. After that it's 20% tax, and you pay in arrears, so although it is a nice idea to put money aside each month to pay the tax bill, you can pay it back in 2 lump sums 9 months and another 6 months later.

Good advice Brownowl, sounds like you had a useful meeting.
Just to clarify for people the tax allowance this year is £7495 (£416 per campaign) & this is what you earn after paying avon & taking off your costs (those listed above), it isn't just what you sell.
