  • think they recommend you order 2 campaigns in advance. I find it easier to do so as I prep my books for all my regular customers and then have my old brochures ready and prepped to re canvas my streets to people who dont currently order from me. It is all then ready for the order to arrive and I have less work to do. Also by ordering in advance if for any reason i get more enquiries from potential customers it gives me a chance to order more brochures if I feel I wont have enough to go around. I like to have enough new brochures for all of my regular customers and then do two rounds for the territory customers I am yet to get.

    Question for everyone really - How many of you are actually registered as self employed. I have had mixed responses from everyone I know as to whether to do this or not. I know I wont be making enough to pay tax or NI but its the hassle of the tax forms that has put me off and some say "dont bother" others say "its your call"
    I advertise alot on facebook and am now increasingly getting worried about not registering even though i wouldn't be giving them any money tax wise at all. Did wonder if i could claim expenses back as with some self employed businesses you can do (ie. brochure costs etc) anyone know?

    I've not done my own tax, but I've done my Aunt and Uncles, they are farmers, was quite simple really, best thing is to keep everything in a folder together, you note down incoming, and out going and thats about it :/
    So I paid X amount for sheering on out going, then X amount for wool on incoming... was literally it

    sorry another question... just putting in orders and noticed something is "any 2 for £4" do I just pop them both on as normal :S? There isn't any special code to pop in for that one is there?

  • yes put the items in as normal and as long as you have two or multiples of 2 of those items in the offer you should see they will come up as discounted when you view the subtotal screen. If it does not show for any reason. check the codes are in that offer and then speak to avon customer services if it still does not show on your invoice when you receive your items.
  • I have registered as self employed, the actual registering is very straight forward and the online form explains and guides you through the whole process, yet to fill out the actual self assessment so I can't advice on that.
    For peace of mind I would register as self employed as you can be fined for undeclared income.
    As far as I know you can claim back expenses against your profit which will then reduces your profits and therefore cost less in tax, however if your not gonna earn enough to pay tax anyway it may not be worth the faff. One other thing if you plan to claim mileage and petrol then you'll need business car insurance.

    You will all be happy to hear my order is in no more problems :D yay! and I made MOV so I am a happy bunny today :) I really wasn't expecting to but I made enough to actually have pennies left over for my pocket :D and a free goody where someone had been silly and not taken advantage of an offer (2 for £4... she ordered one at £4.50... so I got myself something to qualify and gave her 50p off aint I nice :D lol.)

    Self-employment - it's the law that everyone doing self-employment (even if it's on top of an employed job) should declare that they're self-employed. This should be done within 3 months of starting.

    Even if you won't earn enough in total to pay tax (because HMRC looks at your total taxable income, not each income separately), you still need to register and do a tax return. EDIT: To clarify, when you do the self-assessment there are separate sections for each income you have (employed work, self-employed work, taxable benefits etc...) and you fill in the relevant ones. But then they look at the figures from all of them combined to see how much of your personal allowance you've used up and if you've gone over it, how much tax to pay.

    Doing your accounts is also useful from a business pov. They'll tell you how much you're spending over the year on certain expenses (you might get a shock and decide to run things differently to save you some money), and how much you've earned at the end of it. You could be working away for too small a profit - and your accounts will tell you that. Seeing it in black and white can be the wake-up call that's needed to either improve things or stop being a rep. Basically, I don't think people should be working away in all weathers for next-to-nothing without having a clue that they're working for so little. If you work out your earnings and are happy that's fair enough.

    The "it's up to you" line isn't a case of "It's up to you whether to declare or not, HMRC don't mind either way." The "it's up to you" only means, "It's up to you whether to not declare and risk a fine."

    Benefits - this is the other area to declare to. Exactly what you have to do varies from one department to the next. I know Tax Credits want you to ring up to inform them of a change of circumstances and give them an idea of your profits for the rest of the tax year. Then, once a year on the renewal form, you tell them what your actual profits are and they work out your entitlement from there.
    I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

    I think you have to go into your Connects profile (separate to your rep one) and turn off email notifications. I'm not 100% sure on how to do that but if you go to connects and search for "turn off email notifications" that should bring up exact instructions - it's been discussed on there before. :)
