I've ended up stepping on someone toes down a road i just canvased. Collected 10 (out of 20) books, no orders, 6 books were lost by people not being to find them and i lost 4 after posting them on the side of the street where this rep lived.

I knocked on someones door and the gentlemen told me the lady opposite is their avon lady and the same day i dropped off books was the day she dropped of her order to them- she took my book and told the gentleman to tell me to come over and get it!! As it had my mobile number and email- i'm just wondering if she just wants to have a go at me to my face!

I came home very defeated- and decided that the road not worth it.

As said by someone else - worth getting who you joined with to double check that is actually allocated to you, including the house numbers. As streets are allocated using postcodes, some streets have several postcodes (odds can be one postcode, evens another, or if its a long street it can be one end can be one postcode (odds & ends), and the other end another postcode - which if you aren't told properly is impossible to know what numbers you have if you're only told x street. Worth mentioning about this other rep to - best if they're covering it (which is sounds like they), that it is definitely allocated to them, and you get another street to make things easier for everyone.

Good luck with that though. I have now moved to number 40 in our area and they still won't let me have any more houses allocated until I hand over my customers exact house numbers, how shocking is that:eek:
and yet I get constant emails from them telling me "improve your sales"!!

That certainly isn't common place, I think it's just your area manager being a pain & rather under handed. Most are usually quite reasonable. On the plus side managers don't tend to stay on the same patch for more than a few years, so you could outlast them and the new manager be much more reasonable!

Does anyone know where the Glimmersticks Chromes have gone? I haven't seen them for a while and have run out of my Flashy Steel which I love.
Have looked on Ebay but reluctant to pay those silly prices but may have to if they have been discontinued.
Would appreciate any info - thank you.

The Chromes have been discontinued but should be popping up in clearance in future. (Although they're not in clearance up to and including C8 of this year - I checked for a customer).

On ebay I saw some for £2.25 with free postage, which is what the cost price would be when they're £3 and bought with a 25% discount.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Thanks so much. Will take a look at Ebay again and keep looking at HT clearance.

Obviously not a good seller as they haven't been around that long.

Something you'll notice as time goes on is how Avon doesn't give some products much of a chance. They could well have been selling in other countries for longer so maybe overall they decided they weren't selling well, even though here in the UK they've been around for 6 months.

You'll also notice things coming back about a year later "by popular demand". Being very cynical here, but I do wonder if they remove things just to bring them back. ;)

  • Hello,
I am thinking of joining Avon, I have already spoken to a lady on the phone and she has gone through a few things with me, but I just wondered if anyone on here might be able to answer a few questions.........

    1. I am currently employed part time in a school and do not pay any tax or insurance because of low earnings. If I join Avon, would I pay tax etc, and if so, how does it all work?

    2. Working at the school, I only work 15 hours per week so I do not get Working Tax Credit. Would I work "weekly" for Avon, e.g. 1 or 2 hours, therefore taking my weekly working hours to 16 or 17hours)?

Sorry if these are silly questions............I just don't want to jump in without knowing the facts!

    Thank you x

To be honest I wouldn't like to advice too much - would be best ringing the tax office to enquire as for different people it can be different depending on your circumstances. I work full time though, and my avon earnings are separate from my employed work, as the avon earnings are done on a self employed tax return basis, and you do only pay tax on your profit (which takes into account your costs of brochures etc). I'd assume this would work for you too - but couldn't be sure so I'd definitely speak to someone who could advice you properly as noone at avon can legally help you with tax things, just point you in the right direction, as its a bit of a minefield especially when it can affect benefits/ tax credits etc.

  • Thank you for replying.

I have spoken to Tax Credits and will speak to the Tax Office tomorrow.

The lady from Avon is coming on Friday to speak to me in more detail about it all.

Could I ask................what if any order(s) i receive are less than £80, or worse still, what if i don't get any orders that month?

How often do the books come out, is it once a month?
