It's hard to say how much tax you'll pay as it depends - we only pay tax on our profit, so after all costs have been taken into account. Plus I think if you have any benefits, tax credits etc that probably affects it to. I have no benefits or tax credits, earn around 20k before tax, and on my Avon (self employed) earnings I pay around 20% (I think!) on my earnings. But as there's so many costs ;) you don't necessarily need to pay as much tax as you might think.

I'd say ringing the tax office is best as they can tell you other useful things, like any free courses in your area :)

  • I'm literally just about to start my first campaign and am curious as to how many people leave books outside and why? My plan is to put them through letterboxes then come back a couple days later.

I always put mine through the door, the note asks them to put them outside on a certain day. Wouldn't feel happy just leaving them on the doorstep, like someone said - they get dirty, don't know whether people have seen them etc.

Do think most people either put them through doors or knock to see if any interest.

    Good luck!

regarding tax my up liner is earned 38,000 last year and her tax bill was £2,000 because of her out goings she says she sees how much profit shes got during the year then spends profit on the Avon business thats what I am planning on doing as well because I claim tax credits and they take profit into account only so if I earn £10,000 and spend £10,000 theres no tax to pay and working family makes it up. I am hoping with this system I will be out of the benefits system in 2 years. I have had grief of family members about playing the system but in long run I will be saving country money as I was on min wage and would be claim for rest of my life in the dead end job. this way I can pay my own way in the future.

    p.s
This is not at all any advice it just what works for me.
if you are also looking into this kind of thing please phone the tax credits first to find out if it will work for you.

    Looking for inspiration ladies....

    I've been doing Avon about a year now and I'd say I have about 50 customers of which half order regularly and the rest on and off depending on the campaign and what's on offer. Now I was hoping to have had a few more by now but my tactics are obviously not working!! Things I have done recently;

    - re canvassed one side of a long road = no response (other side to do this week plus a few more roads now that children are back at school)
    - Recommend a friend and receive a free gift = picked up 2 new customers from an existing customer who takes the book to work for me
    - the majority of my f&f don't live local so getting a book to and from them is somewhat time consuming so they don't order as often as I'd like but when they do I get a nice order
    - have an Avon facebook page but still struggling to pick up new people only have about 40 friends (how sad am I) and post regularly on local sites to promote that I do Avon offering free gifts for new orders over £10
    - I have been given some more territory but haven't managed to get round to all of it yet. I've done a new cul-de-sac of 18 houses twice = 1 new customer but the others haven't even picked the brochure up from outside the front door. Do I give them a few more chances???

Where am I going wrong? Really want to increase my sales to the £400 pound mark because at the moment I'm struggling to get to £250.

Should I put my regulars on the latest brochure and put all of the other half 'who don't spend that often' on the back book? At the moment I just give my f&f the latest book, make sure all my regulars see the back campaign book first then go onto new territory.

So if anyone has any super duper ideas I'm all ears. I want to succeed but I'm obviously missing something or not doing something right, any suggestions?

    thanks in advance ladies.

Great advice by I Geek. I'd say put all your most regular customers onto the newest book, then you can use them afterwards for your other customers, and for recanvassing. I used to split my territory half and half, but in order to do a bit more on facebook I decided to put everyone onto the newest book. Costs me more in books, but I found it better - though as I'm a fairly late mailplan (K), it also helps prevent out of stocks so has helped my sales that way.

I tried giving my customers 2 order forms last time (they all know that they get a free gift for referring a customer but few have ever done it before). I put on the top order form "free gift when you refer a friend, and your friend will get 10% off their first order". Got 2 new customers doing this.

If you're leaving the brochures outside - don't - either knock and ask, or pop them through the door (yes you might not get them all back, but if you use the previous campaigns books after they've been to your existing customers, then it isn't too big a loss) - they can't avoid the books then!:rotfl:

Found it in C14, page 186, product no. 06700. You get a free gift of same travel size oil, product no. 26419. Nothing in C15.

    Hope this does the trick!

    Afternoon all...

Thanks to I,Geek, Lozza, Money maker and anyone else who commented on my request for inspiration (sorry if I missed someone out).

I do post brochures through the door and don't just leave them outside unless I've been specifically asked too by dog owners who've shredded my Avon books before now! That's the dogs not the owners! :rotfl:

With new territory I put a note in promoting Avon's plus points, 90 day money back blah blah and also an opt out if they don't want to see a book ie not interested. Some have used this note, others have just left the books outside and I've yet to managed to speak to the home owners to see what they think. I might try the 3 strikes and then move on unless interest is shown. I've still got some new territory to cover so I may do this approach with them.

Will also put my regular customers on the new book, but it will have to be next campaign now as my books are already out. I guess it does mess up FB a bit but I'll have to live with that. I've only got about 40 fb friends on my Avon page (how sad am I) so I doubt it will affect many people. I am Avon Lichfield if anyone would like to be my friend :) I'm happy to be a friend on other people's pages too if you let me know who you are.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback, it is really appreciated.
