HP TouchPad

  • Good luck guys if you can get an HP Touchpad from the CPW!!!

It only seems to be the larger stores that are stocking them... When they do arrive in stock, the staff will only have snapped them up!

Finished work at 5pm and nipped over the Centre MK in Milton Keynes and went to larger of the two stores in the centre, they just laughed at me and said the 12 they received about hour earlier had already gone...

The guy told me only their store had them in stock and the smaller one in the centre will not stock them... It was only a 5 minute walk away and decided to try any way.

Went down there and the guy in the smaller store was like a bear sore head when I mentioned the word "HP Touchpad". Not because people had been annoying him asking for them.

He confirmed they didn't sell them there, but was fully aware the stock had arrived at the other store. He made a point of saying, how the manager and staff at the larger store had reserved them all for themselves, friends and family. He was peeved, because they never offered to reserve them one!

This is going to be the story across the whole CPW shop network!

My search for the HP Touchpad has now come to an end, I've had enough of all this searching now and I quit! I will wait for when a cheap Android 3.0 tablet becomes available!
  • I called in to CPW main store at the Metro Centre Gateshead this morning at 10.15, there was only one other customer in the store and I was approached and greeted by a friendly male sales person,I asked if the store had any touchpads and was asked if I wanted 16gb or 32gb i said I would be happy to have any,the salesman checked the computer and said it showed 486 16gb models and 147 32gb models in stock at the firesale price I asked for a 32gb model and paid £115.00 pound for it.

Well done C.P.W. 10 out of 10 for reputable service and for having honoured the price of the tablets, you will certainly get my custom again in the future .

You lucky .... that's too far for me to travel (around 250 miles) so I can't get one

My local store is getting 6 and staff are taking them all.
  • Well done to everyone who managed to get hold of a TouchPad from the Carphone Warehouse stores over the past couple of days.

It's good to see that the recent reports were correct: CPW was in fact selling TouchPads at the firesale prices as predicted - £89 for a 16GB and £115 for a 32GB.

It's a shame that PCWorld, Dixons and Currys didn't do the same - instead of selling them a week ago at inflated prices in their "bundles" (I certainly won't be giving them my custom in future if that's the way they operate).

The only downside to the CPW sale is that the numbers of TouchPads available were extremely low, only available from their larger stores. And they were selling out very quickly - i.e. as soon as they came in.

To all those who missed out - keep trying! Some CPW stores didn't get their full quotas and are expecting a further order sometime next week.

The only other downside is that staff are taking most if not all the stock.

I was in my local store this morning (been going every day) and the had 6 coming in (this was down from 14 then 10). The manager said staff are getting at least 4 and he is getting 2 (that's all 6 gone).

As soon as we went in one staff member shouted "no touchpads!" and they had a handwritten sign outside saying so as well. What they should have said was "no touchpads today because staff are taking them".

Another guy and myself had walked in. The manager said he'll give his second one to this other guy IF there is 1 other spare. I asked him why the preference and was told "because this guy wants it for his 10 year old". Outside the guy had told me he's got 2 already.

I'll be complaining to CPW head office and area manager about this.
  • Thankyou for the tips. I did manage to get one from CPW today at Braehead. They had 12 come in but it turned out that only 3 were available - the others having been pre-ordered (?). There were 20 of us waiting so the staff member in charge suggested drawing names from a hat. We agreed. I was one of the three lucky ones. Very happy!

  • It seems that Amazon.co.uk was selling around 80 of the 32GB TouchPads early this morning (around 2:45am).

The TouchPads were being sold at firesale prices again i.e. £115.

Very annoying - especially for those who had their TouchPad orders confirmed and then cancelled by Amazon previously.

    The hunt goes on...
