  • OK here's the latest update...

Reports are circulating that CarphoneWarehouse has around 2000 TouchPads in stock which it is in the process of circulating around its bigger tablet-stocking stores. Sources are saying it will be Friday when they get them in store - but supplies will be extremely limited (an example of stock numbers is the Sheffield Far Gate store which is set to receive 6 x 16GB and 6 x 32GB TouchPads). They won't be available for purchase online.

The TouchPads are expected to be on sale at the original firesale prices - one rumour is that special bundles will be on offer e.g. 16GB TouchPad plus case plus charger for £134 - now that's a very good deal.

So, going by recent troll economics, that lowers the "market value" of TouchPads quite considerably (albeit temporarily)... but then again troll logic suggests that you should pay more than the fair rate for a TouchPad because they are being sold at more than their fair rate. Duh.

I visited my local Argos this morning only to be told that no stock was expected (but I was advised to keep checking their website). I then visited a CarphoneWarehouse store, but it was one of the smaller branches - they didn't deny any stock was on its way but said if it was it would be likely to be the stores that already supply tablets that would be getting them.

Apologies to all of the people who post on this forum who want you to pay more for your TouchPad (or who want you to get ripped off by highstreet retailers selling at ripoff prices, such as the DSGi group - or inflated eBay prices).

More news when I get it...

Haha you just don't get it. I'm starting to think you're a troll yourself.

An item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, nothing more, nothing less.

There is no such thing as a "fair rate". If DSG sell them for £249 including the dock and case and people buy them then why should they lower the price? If nobody bought them then they would then reduce their price. Clearly since they are not reducing the price, people must be buying them. This means that the TouchPad is then worth that price.

Fair enough if CPW begin to sell stock at the fire sale prices, but the true market value is still set by sales of 'new' TouchPads on eBay.

  • I've received my 32GB one. I haven't opened it yet, but according to the box it comes with WebOS 3.0.2. As I have seen everywhere comments about how the touchpad comes with an older version and how to upgrade it, I was wondering if this one is part of a new batch of touchpads that has arrived in the UK.

Did anyone get one in the original firesale already with 3.0.2?
  • Thanks for the info Msrtin... Will hold on to the one that is due to arrive in next day or two to see if I can grab one at the lower price...

Over on HDUK there are members of staff who have been reporting stock coming on and which stores. Only small numbers to a small number of stores.
