HP to bring 6,000 more TouchPads to UK - for staff only

That should depress the eBay price a bit, once they find their way there. :)
  • Argos currently has the TouchStone charging dock in stock at £35, available for home delivery only - and wireless keyboards for £30, which can be reserved at your local store, subject to stock:

  • Believe it or not, DSG are trying to make money for their shareholders. They have stocks of the TouchPad and they can charge whatever they like for them. If you don't like it, don't pay it.

The TouchPad is a luxury item, this isn't an essential we are talking about. Nobody is forcing you to buy this so it doesn't really matter if you aren't happy with the new price point.

In comparison to other tablets this is still a really good deal and if someone is happy to pay that price then it still offers value for money. It's also cheaper than buying one off eBay but I don't see people having a go at individuals who bought them to sell them on eBay at a profit (coincidentally making profits is not something retailers are allowed to do according to some on here).

    yawn - change the record

I don't know what motivates these people to visit this forum and post such nonsense. Obviously too much time on their hands.

    Must be a DSGi shareholder...

I'm not actually a DSG shareholder. Why do you think DSG should be obliged sell you something below market value?

Market value for these discontinued products = £89 for 16GB TouchPad, £115 for 32GB TouchPad and £159 for 64GB TouchPad.

Market value is whatever people are willing to pay. If enough people are willing to pay more than the prices quoted above, then that is the new market value.

The price (i.e. firesale price) for these discontinued items was set at the levels indicated above by HP, the product suppliers.

If retailers all sold goods only at the "market value" then they would all be on eBay - or they would have auction-style websites where their goods were only sold to the highest bidders.

I refer you to the definition of RRP on Wikipedia:
The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), list price or recommended retail price (RRP) of a product is the price which the manufacturer recommends that the retailer sell the product. The intention was to help to standardise prices among locations. While some stores always sell at, or below, the suggested retail price, others do so only when items are on sale or closeout.

You're now talking about RRP, which is entirely different. Market value (which is what you were originally talking about) is indeed the price that goods would fetch in an auction style format. Touchpads are selling on ebay in excess of the RRP - therefore the current market value is higher than the RRP.

That is not the market value for TouchPads, if you think it is then you are showing a lack of understanding.

Market value is the price at which something would sell in a competitive auction. DSG are in fact selling at below market value, therefore this is still a good deal for someone that actually wants a TouchPad.

Good luck trying to get a TouchPad for the prices you listed.
