    With regard to eCommerce stores having some perceived advantage over bricks and mortar, how would a shop on the high street feel about having to pay cash to every person walking through the door - even if they are 'just looking'. Each sales model has it's own intrinsic advantages, and for this reason the DSR should not interfere with trading terms as they do. The unconditional right to cancel harms eCommerce sales in more ways than you can imagine when margins are wafer thin to start with.

    The trading laws should either be enhanced to allow face to face buyers the same rights as online buyers, or the DSR should be revised to remove this blatantly unfair advantage. Thankfully, most consumers are still blissfully unaware of how far the DSR goes. I think the reason for this is that most people of fair moral values would consider it unreasonable to expect to return goods in a 'spoiled' state which they received in pristine condition. How would they feel if they had bought those same new goods and received them with broken seals and in an obviously 'handled' condition?

    Nobody wants to buy soiled goods at new prices and online margins don't often realistically provide the opportunity to re-sell returned goods at a reduced price taking into account their condition at a level which is above cost price. Even selling online at cost price results in a loss taking into account advertising, processing fees, operating costs, etc.

    The DSR unconditional right to cancel is clearly unfair and needs to be revised.

  • I have just spoken to my friend at HP who has said that there will be no more stock going to any stores anywhere. PC World and Amazon were the only stores that were given more allocation and the rest went to HP staff, most of whom didn't get one either as they sold out so quickly. Their's went on sale yesterday at 10.30 am and they were only allowed one each.
    The 1000 that are rumoured to be going out are the ones that were allocated to PC World apparently and were sold on the website lastnight.
    So, it sounds like the only option now is Ebay, or the people that reserved one at Argos kindly donating a reservation code (which seems highly unlikely!)

    This is clearly not the place to be discussing this at length.

    Although it seems you views are borne from the possibility that you may be an online seller. Shops on the high street would have a different view and so would most consumers.

    I ordered one from PC World at about 10.30 on Tuesday morning, when the 32gb was suddenly listed again. I'd also tried to order from Amazon and Laskys but both of these orders were cancelled, so I assumed that I wouldn't get the PC World one either, but I was really excited to get cofirmation of despatch late last night, and according to the tracking, it's out for delivery at the moment! :D
