Not purely low carbing but lots of useful information and recipes

    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
  • A good book to get is 'Neris and India's Idiotproof Diet' which is low carb and I did follow when I got to a plateau doing low fat/cal, I lost another 1/2 stone and got down to a 25 BMI. I am off the wagon at the moment!! But its a really good book and deals with all aspects of weight loss (ie Mums that hint you need to lose weight and then feed you lots of carbs, and toxic 'friends'!)

    Hi All,

I'm loving all the 'whats your cheapest meal' threads - great stuff and I've knocked up a fair few of the recipes over the winter and they were fab

    BUT....

In summer, especially on the run-up to hols I'm a devoted lo-carber., and the very low cost recipes tend to be buik based eg pasta, baked beans, mash, rice etc etc...and for a meal to be really inexpensive I'd huess this is just the way it has to be

so what I'd love to see is your 'reasonably priced' :D lo carb recipes and storecupboard essentials please.

i keep my costs down by growing a lot of salad stuff in the summer, also as much veg as i can so that i can freeze it for in the winter

buying meat when its on offer and freezing is good and u can pick up good BBQ meat deals at this time of year. (check the carb counts tho cos a lot contain sugar) u can make a good coleslaw with white cabbage and mayo which works much cheaper than buying

also lately i have been shredding cabbage and stirfrying it with butter and herbs etc and u can get a hell of a lot out of 1 cabbage!!

have u seen the recipes for cauli rice/mash etc? u could use them to bulk up when they are in season or buy cheaper frozen

    Hi nicjohnson,

As this thread has fallen down the Old Style board I've added it to the existing thread on Low carb meal ideas. As a low carb diet isn't really Old Style, for help and support in sticking to the diet the best place to post is the thread already mentioned by daisy: Low-carb diets support thread

Cheapest low carb meal has to be a big salad with a little protein on top and a dollop of mayo as dressing. Protein usually in the form of leftover meat/sausages or a bit of cheese. This was a standard lunch when we were doing Atkins.

    Thanks so much :)

Now need to read and learn. I have no idea what a low carb diet involves. :p

Hello to everyone on the thread. I have just been told by my doc I must loose two stone ( I have breathing problems caused by another illness and weight not helping). I have no idea either how to loose it (other than the obvious cutting out of snacks) or how to do this on a budget. Really nice to find an OS thread to help because it means other posters will understand the budget side.

Because of my specific metabolism I have to follow an Atkins style diet and it is costing me the earth!

Anyone trying to do Atkins on a budget? Any tips?
