Anyone got any meal plans for low carbing? I've found that not only do I lose a few pounds but I'm not nearly so bloated or sluggish when I cut my carbs down but its not a cheap way to eat!!! Any help therefore would be much appreciated!!
Life....mmmm....still trying to figure that one out but what I do know is if I had all the answers it'd be a hell of a lot easier!!!!!!:p

I'm following the Neris and India low carb diet at the moment - have a look on their forum pig2twig it's called and there is a cheap meals thread

one of my faves is thai fish cakes
    tin of salmon or tuna
    1 egg
chopped chilli, spring onions, coriander, lemongrass (I don't like the last 2 so do it without!)

mash or blend, then drop tablespoons of mix into heated oiled pan, and flip over when set

nice with spring greens - wilt in a pan, add ginger, soy sauce and lots of lemon

So am I!!! How long have you been going? I started because I recently had a baby and had lost all my energy and wow have I got it back!! Also dropped a dress size so back to my pre-pregnancy size and feel utterly fantastic!!

Didn't realise there was a cheap meal thread on pig2twig, will go and investigate!! Have you tried the roasted butternut squash soup? mmmmmmm sorry, but I dream about that and its solely responsible for my mother-in-law giving the diet a go!!

oh the fish cake one is the one in the book then! and I think the cheap meals thread is a sticky called something like on a budget

Um since the second week of Jan, have lost about 24lbs, but on a massive stall now and it is just now shifting. I love the diet, but hate all the shopping, I find I have to food shop much more often
Keep an eye out for offers on soup - Glorious skinny soups are lush and often on offer at 99p
I like the faux shepherds pie too, but I use less meat and bulk it out with mushrooms etc

Is the faux mash better with the egg in it? I notice that the recipe for faux shepherds pie has an egg in for the mash but the normal recipe doesnt and I find it a little sloppy...

I love roasted celeriac and use it as an alternative to roast parsnips - yum!!

I generally don't have any problems finding something to eat for lunch (but will defo keep a look out for Glorious Skinny soups) and usually have a protein shake for breakfast during the week but come evening meal time, I'm lost - husband needs his carbs and so does my 5yr old dd.. I'm not really into having everything dripping in sauce so struggle a bit there but love stews etc and I'm not a great fish eater although the fishcakes do sound nice, so I might give them a go!!

yes it's lovely with the egg and the cheese - goes all crispy on top! would imagine it would be good fried up into cauli mash cakes as well
I can't stand salmon, but if you are ok with tuna, they are lovely. I have the protein shake every morning too!
Beef stew is good as well, you could serve it with mash for hubby? or something like chicken breast/fajitas but I use lettuce to wrap them up

Best thing to do is to up your seasonal vegetables. Ive heard of people using cauiliflower as a mash substitute too

Soups are easy, filling and can be very low carb

I'll give it a go then as that sounds a vast improvement!!

I'd thought of using the lettuce for fajitas as I use them for beef & horseradish mayo rolls.... slice of beef spread with horseradish mayo wrapped in iceberg - quite possibly one of my favourite lunches ;-)))) We're having fajitas this w/e as they're my dd's favourite.. mainly coz she can make a mess me thinks!!!

No I can't stand salmon either although I do like smoked salmon in with my scrambled eggs occasionally!

Turkey mince burgers or turkey chilli? Turkey is a cheap lean meat when bought minced, ~£3.50/kg basics. One egg will bind up to 500g of mince, add herbs, spices etc. For turkey chilli, fry onions, garlic, bell peppers, add lots of mince and some tinned tomatoes.
Use quark as a thick creamy sauce (it's ~13g protein ~4g carb per 100g) for grilled veg and meat. Sainsbury's be good to yourself quark is good for sauces or sweets (makes a good cheesecake style topping), name brand "Quark" is thicker like ricotta and is delicious topped on meat then grilled.
Add various herbs to cottage cheese and eat with salad veg, chicken/tuna, with spicy chillis to cool them down etc

Look up the Dukan Galette recipe, it's pretty good. You can also use equal amounts protein powder and flour with quark, egg and milk to make delicious pancakes. You can do them without the sweet flavoured protein powder to make "breads" to dip in chilli/stew/curry.

Cabbage leaves stuffed with bolognaise, mince etc are DELICIOUS!! Even just a wedge of cabbage brushed with oil and bunged in the oven is lovely, the leaves go crisp and delicious!!
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
