I think I could manage a low carb diet if it weren't for the fact that alcohol is a carb:(
I've just whiled away an hour looking at this site which although American seems very comprehensive and has answered some of my questions about low carbing -specifically fibre and fruit. I'm still concerned about not being able to eat wholegrains though.0 -
lol hot no am not irish so maybe thats why spuds are no probs
thrift most 'hard liquor' has no carbs ie vodka, whisky, gin etc... take a look at lowcarbfriends or if u want an english site IVillage has a lowcarb forum (i should say i am CL on there).
u can eat wholegrains once u are in maintenance of most lowcarb plans and fruit like berries are one of the things u can add in once u move up the rungs of atkins

I quite fancy trying it too...
I don't eat meat though, but do eat fish
I always assumed it would be quite difficult, with just fish.
The salmon pizza sounds nice though0 -
i quite often cook gluten free meals at work for coeliacs or patients with IBS and find lots of alternatives,
try making a burger bun/pizza base out of a large portobello/field mushroom
use thin slice of aubergine/courgette instead of pasta or in bakes and gratins layered with minced meat and tomato and white sauce, like a lasagne!
wrap meat and vegetables in cabbage leaves and then bake or steam, or serve chilli or stirfried meats in crisp lettuce leaves.£5000 debt cleared thanks to MSE advice :money:0 -
nopot on ivillage we have had a few vegetarian atkins people let alone those that eat fish as well so its fairly easy to do... trust me atkins isnt just about meat despite what the tabloids say
after i also use things like large cos leaves instead of bread for a sandwich type thing. also have a recipe for flourless buns (google cleos oopsies if u are interested)When you know better you do better0 -
Thanks shykins.
For me, I do feel better when I dont eat too much carbs anyway, although I do love them
I have just been looking on Amazon... and Rose Elliot has a vegetarian lo-carb cook book, which I appear to have just ordered
I have a couple of her cookbooks anyway, which are really good, so I will see how I get on0 -
