CD1 here today too. Are we on an all time high today for AF?

Told OH at the dinner table tonight. His response was 'we're not having much luck are we?'.

We've decided that we will make a joint appointment at the GP & say we have been TTC for 6 months (it's only really 2).

What can we expect to happen? SA test? What else?

To be honest, a lot of stress and heartache, and you may find that this means you take longer to conceive if it causes performance issues. The vast majority of couples with no fertility issues will not achieve a pregnancy in the first 2 cycles of trying

    http://www.babycenter.com/0_how-long-it-takes-to-get-pregnant_1813.bc

Having been there and got the T shirt I would really suggest you give it at least one more month before you get on that treadmill. After 3 months almost 60% of couples with no issues will have succeeded, so you might more legitimately be able to start thinking it is worth being investigated.

I guess from your name you may be on the older side? If so, they will test your ovarian reserve to see whether you are perimenopausal. This is a blood test on day 2 They will do a day 21 blood test to see if you ovulate. They will check your DH's sperm count. They may offer lifestyle advice if either of you are overweight or have medical conditions which affect your fertility. You will both be tested for STDs particularly chlamydia.

Next stage could be a prescription of clomid, or a scan to check ovaries and uterus are OK. You might be offered a lap and dye or a HSG to check whether your tubes are clear. You will usually only be offered these if not overweight. If you are, you will be told to bring your weight down to below a certain BMI and see if that resolves your issues before they offer you any help of any kind.

Depending on what if anything your tests reveal, you may be offered IUI or IVF or ICSI. You might also be offered this if you have pretended you have been trying for a long time and there is no reason why you might not conceive with a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. The chances of success for these procedures with a person of normal fertility are no higher than the normal way to conceive and the stress, expense and time off work you will need would be huge.

Sorry not to be more encouraging. Fertility investigations will be one of the most stressful things you ever do however, and my advice would definitely be to avoid them if you can, and certainly not to jump the gun. Even for older couples, the usual advice is to try for 6 months before seeking help unless you already know there is an issue.

DW and DS are - but I have to admit, I do love me some sweet potato with mallow fluff!

    :D

Omg you can put it on sweet potato?

I bought some fluff in the US before and me and DH are addicted to it on hot chocolate! I found you could buy it in Selfridges (although it costs about 4-6 pounds dependings on size of tub!) but used to treat myself to it once in a while.

However i dont work in london anymore, and my supplies from various holidays ran out. So me and a friend made a 40 min trip to an American shop we found :rotfl: i think it was £2 something.

Then, was randomly in Asda a couple of weeks ago, and saw it for £2 on offer for £1.50!! So will be going there nxt time. I heard you can put it on sandwiches but that sounded kinda weird to me.

I totally agree about ttc being like snakes and ladders.

I find that after AF its all exciting waiting for ov because you feel very hopefuly, (although if you have a long or irregular cycle its then exhausting but fun with all the BDing and wondering when ov is actually going to happen!) And then the 1st 2ww is ok because you feel like youve done all you could. Then the 2nd week in 2ww is not fun because you are trying not to SS and it drags, and then you start knicker spotting:rotfl:

And then if AF turns up, its depressing. Then you start all over again. Ughhh!

also - i am not happy about this strike coming up because I am going to have to work for 12 hours that day now, which I dont mind for the extra cash, but it now looks like its going to be either the last day of my cycle, or CD1 - which based on how ill I felt last time, is going to be awful! so just praying aF will hold off for that extra day!

Thanks for the hugs. CD1 has not been too bad today unlike other months. Just thinking about recording temperatures and have no idea how to do it but will have a look at this forum's first page for advice. Though I am determined to keep off booze until Xmas Day depending on whether I get preggers in December. But no stressing over ttcing now.

So as for CD1 I am teetotal, so celebrating with salt and vinegar sticks and fruit jellies. I know how to have a fun evening.... :D

    Hello,

I am a regular poster on this forum, but using another name to post here - feeling like this is a private thing! Just looking for a bit of support while TTC. We have been not trying, but not preventing now for about 18 months, and am just starting to try and try seriously as it isn't happening just naturally.

Started testing for ovulation this month, and I'm only on CD11 and I *think* I got a positive result on the OV test. It feels quite early to me, but perhaps that is where I have been going wrong. My cycle has recently become much shorter, from 28-30 days, now down to 24-26 days. Any ideas why? I very briefly went on the pill (for a month) as it would have been a very bad time to get pregnant, and since then the cycle has shortened.

    Anyway, hello to everyone!

    Thanks Nicki.

I appreciate the honesty about the journey.

I'm 40 and OH a few years older. I was thinking that by the time we actually got an appointment,at least one more cycle would have happened anyway. Will probably not book at GP till after ov.

We haven't discussed what we would do if it didn't happen naturally - still in shock about my about turn and wanting a family.

I am overweight - BMI just over 30. I have lost weight over the last coule of months. Need to try harder on this!

Claire16c - I think you have described how I have felt for months. I find myself inventing symptoms towards the end of my cycle, and then always quite down when AF (I am learning the lingo!) arrives. Am hoping now to know when I am ovulating may help - but it may just be more depressing if things continue to not happen!

Me too :) Some real life friends knew my original username so wanted a new one to keep things private.

I have no idea why your cycle has shortened. Do you know if it's your luteal phase that shortened? CD11 would make perfect sense if your cycle is 24/26 days as a 14 day luteal phase would make it 25 days :) So sounds OK to me. But I'm far from an expert...

Hugs TTC40, if it makes you feel better OH's cousin had 2 kids when she was over 40 and her OH was 50. Also it took me 4 months to get pg the first time (I was 30). I know that's not a long time to some people but I just wanted to echo the stats of what Nicki was saying.

I'm itching to start BDing :o Poor hubby hasn't had much sex since DD was born. I feel so terrible but my libido has been non-existent. It was never good before :o Hopefully I can make it up to him next week.

No idea what has changed - I used to think I could feel when I ovulate, but now I am not sure. I get a slight period pain twinge in the middle of my cycle, but not much else. Today I am a little sore from gym, which I am imagining is minor cramping... but as I said - I feel like I am inventing plenty of symptoms these days!

Just in case, will see if I can seduce the hubby when he gets home!;)
