I use a pan of boiling water to sterilise mine, and then simply wash the pan before it's used again for anything else. I do give it a good wash with soap and water first too.
Someone mentioned using bleach on the Mooncup thread once, to keep it nice and clean looking. Mine is now a little stained, so I have been considering this too, but I'm apprehensive to use bleach on something that I put in my vagina! Especially when it is just for asthetic reasons.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

*hugs* lemonmelon, I hope the operation goes well and you are back on your feet quickly. Let us know how you get on.
So, ladies. Mooncups. Worth it? Any good? I want one but I'm reluctant to spend £20 on it if I'm hoping to get upduff soon, as you have to *cough* 'upgrade' post-birth apparently. Having said that, I spend about £8 per cycle on sanitary protection, so I'd only have to not catch for three cycles for it to be worth it... argh. Someone tell me what to do!
Id probably buy it then because then it would be sods law you got pregnant! And then you wouldnt care about the £20!
£8 seems kind of expensive though? I think I probably spend about £3/4, or whatever 1 big box costs.0 -
regarding the dishwasher and mooncups, there was once a huuuuge post on here all about that. Was quite amusing.0

I like that idea, maybe I will! Sounds like a good plan.
I doubt I do actually spend that much, it's just that the last time I went to the supermarket I stocked up on everything cos I'd pretty much run out - so maybe that's why it's in my head. Also, I had a Mirena in for 8 years before TTC, so I now stand in the 'feminine hygiene' aisle looking confused as I still haven't quite got the hang of working out what I prefer to use for AF!0 -
Sa-ra-ra-ra, I've been having my period for 11 years now and I've still not worked out what I prefer to use for AF. Tampons are just so uncomforable and pads make me feel unclean. I may have a go at these mooncups.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0

I don't put mine in the dishwasher  I think it was pigpen who said she did, but she loves to cause a stir with her posts and I hope that one was done for effect. I must be a minger because I just wash mine well every time I use it. I've only boiled it once and I forgot about it and the pan boiled dry which smelled quite nasty! I've never caught anything nasty doing this.
For the gluten free friend, how about some salmon with rice and lots of soy sauce and salad or chicken breasts wrapped in cheese and proscuitto with rice and veg? You could have some eton mess for pud. I hate special diets though. Every time I have cooked to accommodate somebody on one, even though I have kept to the rules I always end up making something they just don't like rather than can't eat, and wish I hadn't bothered!0 -
Found out she can have Chicken Tonight sauce, so going to do a chicken casserole with rice. Usually the OH cooks for us when she comes over as he's better at curries and stir fries than I am. She comes over every couple of weeks for tea, so am quite used to it. Plus it's much cheaper than going out for a meal to meet up. Luckily we don't tend to eat pudding in this house very often, unless its a naughty bit of ice cream.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0

Question: What is one of the main ingredients in soy sauce? Yes, wheat! Probably not good for people who can't eat wheat/gluten... (source of knowledge: my wife, who can't do wheat/gluten/soy sauce!)
PS someone once mentioned that soy/soya/soy sauce is not good if you're TTC.... is this true?Every time I have cooked to accommodate somebody on one, even though I have kept to the rules I always end up making something they just don't like rather than can't eat, and wish I hadn't bothered!
Whilst you might not enjoy trying to keep to all the complexities of special meals, ask them for a few things they will eat, and stick to it - that way they know what they'll get, and you know that they'll eat it. Tried and tested, from a truly awkward person when it comes to meals. I always say what I can/will eat, and always then know. And everyone's happy.
And yes, you can tell them to cook something which is good when you're TTC, an added bonus - as long as you're not too picky... :THaving fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -

Those are the main reasons I wanted to try the mooncup in the first place.
Nicki, of course you aren't a minger. I didn't boil it once either, and it was fine. I'm just always trying to get mine to look like new again, fail and then give up! :rotfl:February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I had forgotten soy sauce had gluten. In my defence I would always check an ingredient before using it, and am pretty experienced in cooking dairy and gluten free as my DD had to exclude both from her diet simultaneously for 6 months.
The friend I am thinking of gave an exhaustive list of what he couldn't eat (which did include soy sauce) and when he came to lunch with a large group of people and was served poached salmon, new potatoes and green beans (which are all fine for a coeliac) announced as he sat down to the table that he had forgotten to mention he didn't like fish and could I cook him something else! Not pleased was an understatement. Everyone else had to wait 20 minutes for me to do him a chicken breast with the result he got a nice fresh meal with cold veg, and everyone else got a lukewarm meal.
