Trying for a Baby Part 7

Sorry, just a rant, completely non ttc related, but I am steaming.
Those who have been trying for a while might remember my saga of my awful trip to visit my parents over Christmas which culminated with my mother crashing into my (parked) hire car at high speed causing about £1000 worth of damage. It was parked a good 200 yards from her car, but she got into hers and did a three point turn at high speed and reversed into the back of mine, and didn't tell us what she had done until we went out later and noticed the extensive damage.
She has just phoned me to complain that her insurance premium has gone up by £250 this year because the hire company has claimed for the damage from her insurance, and what do I propose to do about this, as she can't afford the higher premiums from here on in, and also hasn't told my father about the accident and he will now find out
I am a SAHM so what she really wants is for my OH to pay the increased premiums for her every year until she stops driving (she is in her early 80's so that day is possibly not far off). I don't really see why I should ask him to do that. It probably would have been cheaper for us just to pay to have the damage to the hire car fixed ourselves at the time, than several years of higher premiums for her, and she didn't help herself by cracking lots of jokes to her friends in the few days beforehand about how bad a driver I was because I was nervous about driving a much bigger car than I am used to in a strange city (the hire car was a Picnic so massive)
How annoying for you Nicki.
If you refuse to pay what will happen to your relationship? Is she as stubborn as my mother?!Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
Hi Nikki,
I remember the saga, annoying as it is, could you do the mse route to see if you can get it cheaper for her? Takes a bit of time but if she doesn't usually shop around there is a good chance she is paying more than she should anyway.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

For the first time sine I bought it, er last year - I got the zumba thingy for the wii out of the box, and gave the beginning session a try.
It's so much harder than I thought it would be and I am SO much more uncoordinated that I thought I was in my head. God, I hope DW NEVER lets me dance in public ever again.
Also, I actually only managed about 10 minutes of it at a very low pace, because of my back issues. (I shouldn't in theory be doing any exercise without checking with my Physio first). I might go swimming this afternoon - certain styles are OK for me to do.
I am sick and blooming tired of being a big fat lump. I have plastered pictures of me at a healthy weight and one I felt great at, on the fridge and the cupboards.. in an attempt to shift some pounds.
I'm a bit scared to get on the scales thoughBaby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
Oh gosh Nicki, rant away.
If your mother is in her early 80s, surely the age itself would make a difference on the insurance policy as well not just the claim? I would be tempted to say that no, you wouldn't pay for it but than it's family, isn't it? sometimes it's better to keep quiet and pay to avoid more arguments. And yes, if you pay for it, than still tell your dad, he needs to know!0 -

Rups32, welcome:wave: Seems I missed your post yesterday:o
(((hugs))) for mc:(
I've added you to the list on the first page, let me know if you'd like your age added:) Which CD are you?
MrsJ28, yay for fertile cm!:D
Oh the things we get excited these days:o
Secretdebts, (((hugs))) for af:(
Almost positive opk is still negative:(
Birdie, good luck with eye lasering. I'd love one of those too:happyhear
Nicki, could your mum get a cheaper insurance somewhere else?
Premiums are bound to go up when older (not sure), so maybe your dad won't notice the reason for it?0 -
Nicki - I remember that.
I wouldn't pay - as adults we are responsible for our actions. What would she be saying now if she had bumped into a strangers car? That's the idea of insurance - unfortunately it goes up!0 -
Nicki - would be fuming too, what others have suggested about getting quotes to see if you can get it cheaper sounds a good idea.
SD - hugs for af, that is a short cycle for you, it may be the antibiotics and pneumonia affecting the length of it though.
QQ - thanks for the lists and really hope you can see mil and still make the appointments at the ivf clinic.
ASF - am I really on 7dpo - time is draggggggging !!!!
2b - I do the zumba on the wii and go to zumba classes and have to say I find the wii much more difficult as it is hard to follow where as at class the dances seem easier to pick up. Good luck with swimming later.0
