Another non fan of baby showers here. I never take a present, my husband and I give a gift from BOTH of us after the baby is born. Most of the couples we know we're both friends with both of them and the gift is for Mummy and Daddy.

I think baby showers exclude the men at a time when men can sometimes feel left out, not that they'd want to hang around drinking tea with a bunch of women but it's their baby too and I think it's nicer to give presents when both are there.

At the last baby shower I was at there was a "game" where everyone wrote down who they thought would be pregnant next. I was the "winner", as it turns out the mummy to be at that one is expecting her second later in the year, so I wasn't even close :(
    Awwww colli :(
I agree about leaving men out too. I also think it's much nicer celebrating when the baby is actually there, some parents feel abandoned when the baby has arrived and there's noone there to exclaim to, especially if the child had already had it's gender and name broadcast before it was even born (imo). I know dh wouldn't want to be left out, and I wouldn't want him to not be there either.

bigz my 3 friends had a joint baby shower and imo it was just a way to get gifts lol, i hate the thought though, mind you I'm anti social lol.
See, she's said on the thing that they don't need any gifts, and I know her family and his both will have splashed out over christmas, and she'll have bought everything imaginable for it, so the gift thing isn't the issue here for me... (though I am stubborn and probably wouldn't tip up with one out of a sense of presumed duty, just on principle :p) But for me, almost because there's no gifts to be had, (and I'm not expecting it to be a particularly well-organised or fun shindig) I just feel like it'd going to be a "come celebrate my fertility! Come, come see how found my belly is -compare it to your empty one! Touch it, coo over it, congratulate me!" party... :o

Oh yes, and I'm anti social too :D

Thanks for your replies - much appreciated.

My period was due monday 20th, so the bleeding was a few days early. It was also what I would call quite heavy, certainly heavier than the 2 periods I've had since the loss. My periods are normally 4 or 5 days, lighter at the beginning and end, this just started and then stopped just as suddenly.
Carolan, I don't have any great advice for you, but it sounds possible that it was a breakthrough bleed rather than an af... I'd go for the blood tests, get the cheap short dated clear blue conception indicator tests from ebay and test every few days with those, guard my heart as much as possible and hope for the best :o please do come back and tell us how you get on? :)

 everybody, it's Friday night :j

Back from a bit of time away visiting my new niece.... she is adorable, tiny and perfect, and makes me even more broody :o My sister in law asked when we would be ttc and I was very vague about it; she said 'you do know it doesn't always happen quickly, you don't always get pregnant straight away..'. I smiled sweetly and nodded as though she was imparting great wisdom to me.

Have also seen another pregnant friend today, and found out that another friend is expecting! So all in all a lovely day but I one of those 'babies/pregnancies everywhere days'. A bit exhausting.

Lemonmelon - fantastic news, so pleased for you. Congratulations! Can't wait to hear how you told your DH :)

CD1 for me today - at last this cycle is over, but I have to say I still felt disappointed when AF arrived. I knew I wasn't pregnant, but there's a silly part of me that hoped the baby was just hiding or the pregnancy tests were broken. Hope the next cycle is a bit shorter (this was 48 days).

Tealover - sending huge ((hugs)) for your long cycle and hope it will be over very soon.

Have been reading all the posts but sorry I can't remember everything from them - this is such a chatty thread! (which I love!).

Also wondering where secrets has got to? Hope everything is ok.

Have a lovely weekend ladies xx

Did anyone watch yesterdays and todays episode of Neighbours?

Some funny ttc scenes. Whoever wrote the scenes must have tried for a baby themselves, because the character Sonya who is trying to get pregnant, was talking about taking her temperature in the mornings, seeing if it goes up, 2-3 fertile days, and all sorts, it made me smile - DH watched it with me and gave me a look like THAT IS YOU. lol! Then in todays episode she called Toadie at work to tell him to come home to BD as the time was right. Got naked and opened the front door - only to have a friend walk in instead and cue hysterical screaming. Then panicking that they had been trying for 3 months and nothing had happened.

It was like a mini synopsis of all things ttc!

claire - yes I did, I am a MASSIVE Neighbours fan (since it started!!). It's my big secret (well, not any more...) I was watching it with DH today and he said 'they're doing what we're doing' and I couldn't stop laughing and I have now declared we are the same as them.

Maybe I need to create a dodgy bed in the lounge and get naked in front of one of our neighbours?

Haha Ive watched it since I was 3! And Im 28 now! Sky+ it now, its my guilty pleasure. I think thats why DH will watch it with me as he was an 80s kid too and he used to watch it as a child too so knows all the characters. Last year we went to Melbourne as part of our travels and I finally got my photo of me with Dr Karl Kennedy lol!

Yep, I quite like the idea - mind you, our sofa in the lounge is actually a sofa bed so.....!:rotfl:

I watched it too but have a horrible feeling they are going to go down the assisted fertility storyline, which I have great un-ease with because its *only* been 3 months of trying & actually only 3 months since she came off the pill. For anyone not truly aware of these things (like my OH who wouldnt have a clue) it could cause great worry !

And Yes, I know its only a soap but I think if they are going to cover these story lines then they should be factual and educate where they can. (anyone notice how susan was on deaths door with MS not too long ago and now its never mentioned )

anyway, rant over back to lurking ;)

I was 5 when I started watching and am now 30 so we are both die hard fans ...!! I am seriously jealous of the photo with Karl. Maybe I will focus all my rage and envy onto this now so that I can not get too stressed about ttc... :rotfl:

Mishka - I know what you mean about soaps not being realistic, and I think they will go for an assisted fertility storyline too. I have to say I take everything in soaps (especially one as 'special' as Neighbours..) with a large pinch of salt, but in some ways I agree it would better if they were more educational and realistic.

That said, is there anything realistic about Neighbours??? Nobody has any friends outside of their own street :rotfl: (right, I will shut up about Neighbours now before I take over this thread... totters off to find some sort of Neighbours support group/fan club thread...)
