She has asked me to be godmother (this is how organised she is, as the christening is almost planned!) so I am already helping out with cakes and games etc.

Wow, that is a real honour in my book. Think I'd be saving up more for something special for the christening. When I was Godmother for my godson I did the same as what my brothers godfather did - I've laid down a case of port - looking forwards to sharing it with him on future big occasions!

That's what my godfather did and we enjoyed drinking it at my 18th birthday. :D

Oh god, don't put me under pressure already for christening gifts!:rotfl:

I've found something for the baby and the big sister for when the baby arrives, so no problems with that gift. The christening won't be for a while yet, so I guess I will wait and see if its a blue or pink bundle and take it from there. Think maybe I will make something?

  • Hi there,

I was just wondering if some of you could give me your opinion / thoughts on my situation – i've read both this thread and the less than 12 week thread and you all seem very friendly !

At the end of November last year, we had a missed miscarriage. The pregnancy wasn't planned however we were so excited. Following the miscarriage we decided we want to try again, so as soon as my first AF arrived (end December), we started using ovulation tests.

I believe I ovulated around Sunday 5th Feb and AF was due Mon 20th. For most of last week I felt sick with stomach cramps and a test on Thursday was negative and I starting bleeding on Friday, which continued Saturday and most of Sunday too.

On Tuesday this week, I realised I still felt sick and decided to do a test – which came up positive, although faint. Being a bit obsessive I've tested again each day and the tests are getting darker – they are the cheap ebay ones. Last night I used a clear blue digital and it says pregnant 1-2 weeks.

I've spoken to my doctor who has said they can do blood tests next week if I wish but he would advise waiting a couple of weeks, and they will then arrange scans, etc.

What do you think ? Is it likely I am pregnant ? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much as I know the bleed over the weekend might not be good news.

    Thanks xxx

Hi Carolan, if you have had a + pregnancy test then you are pregnant however I understand the bleed is worrying especially after what happened in November.

Blood tests done a few days apart will show your hormones rising which would show a pregnancy progressing as the hormone doubles every few days. A scan at this stage would not show anything and can cause more worry than it helps but in a few weeks (once you get to 6 weeks) a hb should be seen which would reassure you.

Hi Carolan. I am sorry for your loss and that you find yourself in a confusing time.

It is a very ambiguous situation to be in, and although some women in your place go on to have a baby, others discover that they are not in fact pregnant at all, and that the positive is a carryforward from a chemical pregnancy which ended at the time of AF. If I were in your shoes (I am also ttc after a miscarriage) I would find it easier to think that this was a new cycle, but one with a high chance of resulting in a pregnancy, rather than that I am actually pregnant at the moment IYSWIM. I find it hard though to work hard at keeping hopes high, if it all ends in disappointment, and so tend to be cautious with my emotions. You could keep testing with CB digi tests every couple of days though and see whether the levels go up or down if you are desparate for answers quicker than your GP can provide. I confess I would probably also have the blood tests in advance of the scan to get some earlier answers, but these tests can also be ambiguous and cause a lot of stress.

I really hope that this is a successful new pregnancy for you, and that you get some answers quickly.

So the bleed was around the time your period was due? What was it like? Heavy or light? Was it like a normal period or shorter?

We can often have a pseudo-period even whilst pregnant, particularly at the start, simply because hcg levels (the pregnancy hormone) aren't high enough yet to 'switch off' your normal monthly cycle.

All is not lost, but I agree with others - a worrying time. Unfortunately there's little you can but wait. Personally I'd ask for an hcg test now (will involve your GP surgery taking blood). In a healthy pregnancy the levels will double about every 48 hours. There's no reason why you can't start checking them now (rather than wait a few weeks). The important thing is to get that baseline figure and then repeat the test, say, four days later. If they've doubled and doubled again in that time, things are looking good.

Might be worth another chat with your doctor.

  • Thanks for your replies - much appreciated.

My period was due monday 20th, so the bleeding was a few days early. It was also what I would call quite heavy, certainly heavier than the 2 periods I've had since the loss. My periods are normally 4 or 5 days, lighter at the beginning and end, this just started and then stopped just as suddenly.
