If it's not done by dentists - or under the instruction of a dentist - then it IS illegal. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Here is the details of a whitening firm prosecuted for illegal whitening. http://www.dentalrepublic.co.uk/news/article/tooth-whitening-under-fire
The European council last week published a new ruling that whitening can only be carried out after a consultation with a dentist and the dentist providing the initial treatment.0 -
I went just last night to Pearl National in Leeds through a Groupon deal.......
It's clearly a massive scam to make a lot of money in a day. It's a pop up 'treatment room' in an office block with a cheap fold away rattan screen concealing 3 massage beds.
Three young beauticians are present, no manger, no proper staff, no proper equipment. They give you a mouth widening gum shield thing which clearly hasn't been sterilised and probably been in a million peoples mouths.
They then paint on peroxide onto your teeth, put a pretend UV Light (which is blue, not purple and doesn't make anything ultraviolet) over your teeth for 10 mins, then repeat the process twice.
When i asked if i could see the beauticians certificates to show they were fully trained in the process they said they were in the post....hmmm....
I left after the first session after upsetting the beauticians for saying I'd sue if something went wrong. If my teeth don't fall out, I should have a nice dose of oral herpes!!!!!!
When you consider they have 3 beds - so 3 people an hour - start appointments at 9am until 7pm - so 10 hours - that's 30 people a day (they told me they were fully booked for 6 weeks when i arranged my appointment) - each paying £69 - thats over 2 GRAND A DAY they are making in each city!!
THIS IS CLEARLY JUST A TOTAL MONEY MAKING SCAM, WITH NO PROFESSIONALS PRESENT.......0 -
Clearly Steph you work for Pearl National......0

There is no such thing as a certificate to qualify a beautician in tooth whitening. By UK and EU law it is illegal for anyone other than a dentist to carry out whitening.
If you feel you have been harmed or other people may be harmed by the practices of this company then contact the GDC http://www.gdc-uk.org/Newsandpublications/Publications/Publications/GDC_Tooth_whitening_leaflet%20%282%29.pdf
It is not just the lack of qualified people carrying out whitening in unhygienic ways, with unknown chemicals at unknown concentrations on the most sensitive part of your body that is a problem, but tooth whitening ,even done properly on the wrong person can cause permanent, irreversible harm.0 -
I had the same with Groupon voucher at Pearl National.
Pearl Nationals boss doesn't pay the rent on most of the companies rented places they do business in. I know this because I was told by a landlord I accidentally spoke to in London.
I wrote long emails to Groupon to change the terms & conditions contract with it's sellers.....that Groupon should with held 30% or grater of revenues to sellers until one callender month after the voucher has expired so that it can give customers refunds quickly if sellers take advantage of Groupon and it's customers through selling fraudulent services through the Groupon website.
Write to Groupon and copy this forum Http: and ask for a full refund and that it should ban Pearl National from it's website!!!
I didn't think I'd get a full refund from Groupon until about 2 weeks after I got a response!!!! If you tell them that they should re write the terms & conditions contract between Groupon and the sellers about the 30% description above they will feel that you do deserve a refund!!!0 -
DO NOT BUY THIS VOUCHER!!
Or if you have, ring Groupon to try get your money back..
I had the same with Pearl Teeth Whitening - they cancelled once via text due to 'supplier problems' and then I went in today for my second appointment - and yes it was just a room in an office block (this was their London branch near Trafalgar Sq), and the room was empty, dark, and no-one there!! The building's cleaner was there, and he checked and wondered as well that it was empty..
They literally had a printed out A4 on their door that said 'Pearl Teeth Whitening' in a cheap font and through the window I could see there was two or three bed-things and a cheapo room divider, and rubbish on the floor etc. Then I knew I'd just been scammed...... I rang them and they said again 'oh yeah we've had to cancel due to supplier problems with the products' or some crap like that. Rescheduled for next week. Came home, did a bit of googling, found this forum, and rang Groupon straight away.
I did have to queue for 20 minutes to get through to them on the phone, but once I did I explained what'd happened, the woman on the phone did some research on their database and said yes we've had other people who've complained about the same thing as well and have gotten a refund. So she issued me one as well, for the £87 I paid. I should get it in 3-5 days.
I am kicking myself so hard that I ever believed it was a proper legit teeth whitening business with professionals working there!!
If I ever consider teeth whitening again, I will opt for the proper clinics... Never using Groupon ever again. Aaagh.0 -
There is light at the end of the tunnel but i have to say i do not think i will use Groupon in a hurry again!!
I attended my appointment with pearl National after being contacted after trying to get through a 100 and 1 times, they agreed the appointment and when i went there there was two very rude girls that said i did not have an appointment and that there was no product and they where only there waiting on a delivery so i have now spent the groupon £99 pound and a 1 day travel fair to lonodn and takig time out to go there anyway i wrote to both had no response wrote again and then groupon contacted me after two weeks saying they did not have my first email regarding this but in the end it was refundrd to me the pearl national or what ever they where called rang the same afternoon to book me in again and said the place i went to had shut down very un professional conatcted groupon again and after nearly 2 months i got my money back please be careful with these companies.
I also book something else via groupan last year and when i rng company to book appoinment i was told i could only attend when they wanted me to so lost roughly £100 there Groupon should have seen that the voucher had not been reedemed and refund me the money but did not so i am now very careful when using groupan.0 -
