Salad tonight to use up the last of the lettuce and rocket from the veg box - also a single tomato (well, OH isn't keen on them anyway so I had that on my plate!) plus the remains of a bag of radishes. Fridge is looking very empty now! Tomorrow night will be fish pie (fish & mash got out of the freezer this evening to defrost and now sitting in the fridge) with some of that marrow I mentioned before (which is now in the fridge where I can keep my eye on it!) and probably some frozen veg from the freezer. I even remembered to put some dried pulses in to soak tonight for Thursday's sausage casserole (which will be cooking away in the slow cooker while we're out on Thursday!) so I'm feeling quite pleased with myself for being so organised.
On the rest of the MSE front, I have signed up with Quidco and have already seen my first items tracking through which is encouraging. I've signed up for the LoveFilm free trial on Pigsback too - hopefully those points will come through fairly fast and that will by my first voucher sorted. :T We have worked out that to pay off our car loan early (over a year early to be precise) we need to stash aside £462.50 per month. Bit of a tough one but I;m determined we can do it. Will be looking for lots of help and moneysaving ideas and inspiration I think! It's the first step on us really attacking our mortgage, and once that is sorted out then we can start planning our eventual move across to the Hebrides. :j It's years away yet but now I've written it down in black & white I feel it's a proper committment! wow thats realy good, get them to eat veg without them knowing anything about it. If I gave my 12 year old courgettes, he would think I was trying to poison him. Give him chocolate cake and he will eat the lot.
How much do you put in?
To be honest I just guess most of the time, I'm an experimental cook
If I were making a cake with 225g flour, sugar, fat, 4 eggs I would put a whole grated courgette in, maybe put a little more cocoa powder in than normal, you really can't tell when it's cooked though:rolleyes:God is good, all the time

I've got a bit of rocket thats past its best - wondering if one can cook it and, if so, any suggestions for use (its not really good enough for another helping of salad from it).0

Had to throw a few fluffly strawberries and a bit of gooey courgette (wish I had noticed it in time to do the cake recipe!)
Have updated my sig - sitting at £2.50 so far this month- not too bad I suppose.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I've just come across this thread and would love to join please!!
I hate waste, but can be the worst culprit for doing so! From what I've read it's basically keeping a note of any uneaten food that's gone to waste (rather than cooked food that's not been eaten!). How would I calculate the cost if it's not complete?

In the past fortnight we've thrown out 2 yoghurts (intended on eating them regardless but smelt funny), a shrivelled up orange (found it at work, if it was at home it'd not escaped my attention!) and a tiny bit of manky lettuce0

Had to throw away 4 kiwis today as they were very squishy. Why cant I be better with the fruit ? I checked them yesterday and they seemed ok, now I have thrown away 5 satsumas - which were on BOGOF - so not too bad, 4 kiwis and 1/2 packet salad. I will do better next week. I was feeling very pleased with myself until the Kiwis.

Not sure how people are estimating the cost TBH, as I'm not really bothering with that. I did go to Tesco to see how much I'd wasted with my whole swede (89p) but that's all I've thrown out apart from a couple of blueberries that had gone furry (I did a Jonathan Maitland and ate the rest!).
Today I have used an old bottle of SlimFast smoothie from an abortive weight-loss attempt to make 5 lollies, which DD has tested and approved. Just as well as there are 2 more smoothies and 3 bottles of milk shake to make into lollies yet!0 -
Been saving the end bits of the bread loafs in the freezer cuz nobody will eat them (I still wonder why??) and today made them into a bread and butter pud.
It turned out absolutely lovely!
But...
of course other than my 15 yrs old.. the rest of the little [STRIKE]sh.ts[/STRIKE]lovely children won't eat it.
Under the excuse of: "i'm full..." it got left...
So now I've got quite a huge bread and butter pud left over which my and my DD can't possibly eat between us.
Help?
