Welcome aboard! It's not so much making a note of what you've wasted, more working so that it doesn't get wasted in the first place, and reaping the rewards in terms of financial gain. As someone else said, I wouldn't worry about calculating the cost unless you particularly want to or feel it would help you to do so.
I've had so little to throw away this week that I've never actually got to the stage of putting a rubbish bag in the kitchen bit - I've just been using carrier bags instead - the first since Monday got put out this morning. I suddenly remembered the other day that I'd not thought to check the larder very much in terms of food waste - I quick recce recealed rather a lot of elderly packets of jelly, so I've been making those up as puddings in place of the yogurts I'd usually buy. Have just made a delicious lemon one with a tin of mandarin segments and their juice thrown in, realised afterwards just how far out of date the jelly was - suffice to say we must have packed it to come with us when we moved here.......nearly five years ago!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hard to believe that this thread had dropped down to page 4!
Yesterday I had to 'ping' 6 very withered apples to avoid them having to head for the bin. When I looked for my whoopsied probio-yoghourt to have with the apples - I found that it had sneakily gone ood - how annoying :mad:! Had to open my SP one instead - still very nice with my apples though.

Currently trying to work out how to use up a very old tin of apples in syrup without them tasting too sweet or just eating them out of the tin. I don't usually let myself throw too much away from the fridge, so normally it is storecupboard stuff that I forget about *bad me, I know*0

Apple pie/apple crumble.
Apple cake (using well-drained apples) - make up a wholemeal cake recipe and add some of the apple very finely chopped. Put about half of the mix into a cake tin, cover with remaining sliced apples and then the remaining cake mixture.
Drain and serve with fromage frais or plain yoghourt.0 -
Had to throw away 4 kiwis today as they were very squishy. Why cant I be better with the fruit ? I checked them yesterday and they seemed ok, now I have thrown away 5 satsumas - which were on BOGOF - so not too bad, 4 kiwis and 1/2 packet salad. I will do better next week. I was feeling very pleased with myself until the Kiwis.

Any fruit left at at the end of the week that won't make it through another, I chop up and make a crumble with. It diesn't matter that it isn't traditional fruit it all goes in. We've had some combos I can tell you! If I only have a small amount left I either make individual crumbles in ramekin dishes or bung the whole fruit in the freezer until I have enough to do something with.0 -
I made crumble last week with squishy pears and a manky banana and it was absolutely delicious. Funny how sometimes we get stuck thinking that crumble is only for apple or rhubarb. Well I do anyway! It is like corned beef hash to me had to be made with corned beef until I read somewhere else that you can use other types of left over meat and we now love " Sunday left over pork" hash.Away with the fairies.... Today's use up food meal:
2 chicken thighs
half an onion
almost on the turn cauliflower
soft asparagus
almost wizened mushrooms
a carton of passatta
almost out of date cannelloni beans
rice with BB date of May 2007
Fried off onion and chicken - added passatta, mushrooms, cauliflower - added some water - added the rice and cooked it all up. Just before the end added the bits of asparagus and then the beans. Seasoning too and a dash of garlic.
Four meals at least!!0 -
Just picked some young beetroot from allotment. First time growing but not too sure how to cook them, can anyone help please.0

Annie - Depending on their size they can take up to 40 minutes of boiling. If they're only golf ball size and you have a microwave, put them in a pudding basin half filled with water and cook on High power for about 15 minutes.0

How much stalk do I leave? do I top and tail before cooking or after? I would say they are golf ball size- yes.0
