Anyone know if its possible to freeze beansprouts - specifically sunflower ones - before I have to bin them? (Damn - just thinking - I could have added them to the bread I made yesterday - well too late for that now).0

Morning everyone,
Well I've fallen off the wagon a bit, have been under a bit of stress and things have just been going a bit wrong! But I'm back to it today! I've thrown out a soggy lettuce - I saved the best bits for a salad though. I've got some broccolli in the fridge which I cooked on Friday - do you think it will still be ok to eat in a cheese sauce?
I've also got a butternut squash that I need to use. I only ever roast it or mash it, anyone got any other idea's?
ceridwen - I'm not sure about beansprouts but you do get them in frozen stir frys - If you've got to chuck them, you could try it and see!lightbulb moment Jan 07 - DFW 417!debtwas£32k

Saute them with some garlic and a squirt of lemon and have on toast.
I have made garlic mushroom soup without cream, but not by a recipe...just sauted them off with some onion and garlic and added liquid...water and white wine until I liked the taste .0 -

If I have some leftover squash, I make soup. I roast it with some sweet potato and a red pepper. I drizzle some olive oil over them and then add some dried herbs (oregano, rosemary, basil, mixed herbs, etc) and roast in the oven. When they are done I put them in a large pan with some boiling water, add a veg stock cube. Let it cook through for a little while, add some seasoning then blitz it down to make soup. The pepper skins don't tend to blitz down well but they are very easily removed. HTH."Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Ok, confession time again. I had to throw 2 tbsp of homemade raita (yog, lime, mint, salt, pepp, cuc)- no idea exactly how much it cost (and had all the stuff in anyway or growing) so am adding a measly 5p on to my total. Otherwising doing fine, and am chuffed to bits. This is really making a difference to me buying new to replace wilted etc, instead now we use or freeze instead of throwing! Thought I was frugal before but definately throwing less now.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Hi all, finally found a use for the pearl barley that's been lurking in the cupboard (it was listed on the packet all the time
) Stuffed peppers!
Peppers are on offer in MrT at 35p but orange ones went through at 18 p each yesterday!! Cooked up 100g of pearl barley in some stock (pearl barley has been lurking in cupboard for months) Cooked 4 chopped mushrooms and half a chopped onion, mix in one medium chopped tomato, a small amount of frozen sweetcorn and a bit of cheese cubed. Sprinkle of curry powder. add cooked pearl barley and mix up.
Bung into peppers (this is enough filling to do 4 peppers) - bung peppers in slow cooker with a small amount of water in the bottom (I did it for 8 hours on low)
With one pepper each and one chicken breast - we were stuffed!!!
Got the other stuffed pepper cold for lunch today.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I'll go have a look for those recipes in a mo Ceri.... there's a link in May....
You lot have got me going bonkers:o I strained up the veggie & pasta with a slotted spoon cuz I was convinced I needed to save the water I'd cooked it in....then couldn't justify leaving something else out of the fridge to store it:rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Has anyone got any recipes for courgettes? I have been given a load today (all homegrown) and am not sure what to do with them. Normally I put them in stir frys etc but there is alot and it will take ages to use them up like that.
Thanks in advanceLife may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0
