Was at a party last night. Lots of salads left over but most was taken home by organising committee for lunches today. I got a huge bowl of sliced tomatoes, which I cooked and froze today to use instead of tinned ones in recipes- will keep me going for months.0

Could I please ask if anyone has a suggestion ... I always seem to end up with the odd crinkly satsuma or clementine ... I do usually try to eat them ... but they are a little sad ... Does anyone have any suggestions for using them up ... ?
LittleCrinklyOrangeBill ...
Had a lovely recipe for tea tonight which involved satsumas - brown chicken in pan then place in casseroile dish. Squeeze juice of satsumas over chicken. Then mix some pure apple juice with wholegrain mustard and tomato puree. Add herbs and pour over chicken. Cook in oven for about half an hour til chicken cooked through. Serve with boiled potatoes and veg. The kids loved it.0 -

I made this a couple of weeks ago... it was lovely, so if you have a well stocked herb/spice cupboard, I can highly recommend it.
Failing that... lob it in with tinned toms, garlic, herbs for a pasta sauce.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
You need to get yourself over to the Grocery Challenge Annie, MrsMc's recipes for things like naan, tortilla & baguettes are notorious:D
Had to smile at the comment about the buffet for the 21st...I did exactly the same with the eldest's, but by the time I got to No3 it was down pat:D One thing I am curious about tho, do folk not worry about how long the food has been out of refridgeration & who has been coughing & sneezing all over it, before snaffling the goodies to bring home after a party? Or am I just being too pernicketty:o
Having said that, I made up a spag bag sauce on Thurs with an onion-less version for pup, with the intention of freezing half. As is the case sometimes Life had other plans so the remainder was left in the fridge....But then Pup was poorly & has to stick to vet's food then chicken. SSSSSSoooooooo:whistle:I-ahem--mixed the two lots together :shhh:Pup's had been made with boiled bones & the scrapings there-of too and don't you dare tell the offspringTasted lovely with a chunk of HM french bread & grated cheese:D Plus the offspring all have glossy hair & cold wet noses this morning:rotfl:

Could anyone please point out to me which post numbers I will find Mrs M's naan and tortilla recipes - could do with some decent ones for that.
Ta.:D

I am really cross - I had to throw away 1 nectarin and 2 statsumas today. They had turned completely mouldy in the middle of the fruit bowl, I have to keep a better eye on the fruit.

I'm very pleased with myself. Not thrown anything away for a week and just used up some bits of veg and half a motzarella ball making a leftover pasta bake.Sorting my life out one day at a time0

Nothing in the bin today - veg peelings have gone for the compost. I had a couple of tomatoes which really needed using so I chopped them up and threw them in with the Liver & bacon for tea, yummy!
I suddenly realised earlier that I've got a marrow to use....forgot I'd bought it at the farm shop last week. (OH insists on putting them in the veg basket in the larder - I always store them in the fridge so I remember they're there!) Might have to convert tomorrow nights intended pasta bolognese to use thinly sliced marrow as "lasagne" in between layers of sauce - that always works well! Good thing is, the farm shop marrows are so fresh they last ages so even if I didn't use it this week it'd probably still be fine for next.
I did blanch and freeze some of the carrots from the veg box for use in future stir fries yesterday - I always seem to end up with far more than I can use though - especially as OH isn't keen on them. Can't even give them to my Mum as dad won't eat them either!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I haven't posted on this thread for ages...but i'm doing well. I have thrown the odd thing away but it now 'hurts' to do this. I automatically check dates now and i don't buy the things that i used to constantly throw away.
I've noticed my wheelie bin is nearly empty each week as i don't throw food away and i compost everything i can.
I only buy things if i really need to and i make do and mend.
I think all of us oldstylers are great, (and how much money we must save)...lets keep up the good work!
