After my dismal start to the beginning of the month I haven't had to throw anything else out. I am keeping a close eye on my veg supplies and things like eggs and yoghurts. I am also remembering to put meat in the freezer straight away if I decide not to cook it as planned. Following this thread is paying off.

feeling mighty pleased with myself. We had a virtually full canister of mango and apple tea that no-one likes anymore (I never liked it anyway, so I'm not to blame :) ) I wasn't sure how to use it until today. I found someone had left the lid off the dried apricots and they were hard so I soaked them in some of the tea and made bread pudding - result!!!!!

It's surprising isn't it, that when you start an inventory, there's always so much more in the cupboards/fridge/freezer than you think.
Especially when you think how many of us/our family say "oh, there's nothing to eat in this house" :D

Picked lots of our own strawberries today. Quite a few had been half eaten by woodlice so as they're not up to posh eat-alone standard, rather than waste them I've frozen all the bits and will mix them in with home-grown rhubarb dishes or integrate them with autumn's blackberries to make a fruit compote.

Farmers market day today! Made the effort to get out and up there nice and early as often the cheaper (and our favourite!) cuts go soon after opening. For a change we took a list - and a budget - £35 this time round. came away with a large bit of skirt of beef, two large packs of beef mince, two packs of lambs liver, two packs of woodpigeon breasts. (6 in each pack) A dozen eggs, two large packs of bacon, a pack of sausages, a punnet of raspberries and a big bag of asparagus. Also for a change we sorted the stuff out as soon as we got in - divided packs of stuff up where necessary to pop into the freezer - I have a huge pot of spicy bolognese sauce bubbling away on the hob now from half the mince, and we will have liver, bacon and onion on Monday evening. :D We reckon we'll get something around 20 meals for the pair of us from the meat we bought anyway, plus of course the eggs and the other bits. Once we got home I made muffins (Using up dried fruit, the juice and peel from half a lemon that's been in the fridge all week waiting for a use to be found for it, and some mixed peel left over from when OH made the Christmas cake) and OH got the breadmaker going. All in all a productive day. Oh - the sauce which is on the go now also used up a jar of cherry peppers in vinegar that I bought ages ago because "they looked nice" and they were reduced. I'd not found anything to do with them though so I drained them off and threw the whole lot into the sauce! It wasn;t going to be a spicy sauce until I realised what a "kick" the peppers had! :rotfl:

It IS amazing what you've got sitting around your house!
We traditionally have saturday as our shopping day. But since I decided to stop throwing food away, I first inspected my fridge, freezer and pantry before going to the shop.

And I found that all I really needed today was bread, potatoes and dogfood!

There is enough meat and veg in the freezer to last at least clear over the weekend.. so I decided to only go and buy just that!! :rotfl:

It was a lovely change from the usual lugging huge bags into the house! :T

I had 1 litre of natural yoghurt and a batch of quark needed using up out of the fridge. I blended it with a bag of last years foraged blackberries from the freezer and some sweetener and now have two litres of frozen yoghurt dessert in the freezer:D
