    Hiya
I've been having a good read of this thread and there's some fab ideas. I had three bananas that were overripe yesterday and made my first banana cake in years - it's nearly all gone now as DH and children loved it.

I've asked this on another board but thought you guys might know the answer - can I freeze chocolate liquors? Will the alcohol content freeze? If not can you think of anything I can do with them. I have about 100!

    Thankyou xx

Mudbath. I don't think pure alcohol freezes. We were given a bottle of Italian licqueur called Mierto and told that it should be stored in the freezer and served ice cold. I was fearful that the bottle would crack but it didn't and the alcohol in it didn't freeze either. So this suggests to me that that your chocs will freeze OK but the alcohol inside will stay as it it but remain extremely cold. They will probably be nice served with a plain ice cream to jazz it up. You could always experiment and try just freeze a couple to see what happens if you're unsure.

    Hi all,
Can i join in please :0).
I have totally fallen off the money saving bandwagon since i had my daughter 10 weeks ago.
We were (ok I, Hubby shouldn't take any of the credit) doing very well until i was around 6 months pregnant then things started to slide, we (he can take responsibility for the bad things lol) quickly got back into the habbit of ping meals and takeaways with little regards to what we bought or what we wasted.
For the first time in years our bank account is not in the black but it is worrying the amount of food we have been wasting and at this rate i can see our bank account going down each month rather than rising or even staying around the same.
Enough waffling and back ground anyway, this thread is just what i need to keep my motivation up.
I cleared out the fridge yesterday and am so embarrased to say i threw out almost a bin liner of half used, inedable food ranging from mouldy cucumbers to unopened tesco finest ping meals!. This has to stop.

Today is a new day, i have forced myself to use a pack of sausages left over from sundays bbq to have with mash and used up some on the way out mushrooms and a just salvagable onion to make pea, mushroom and onion gravy. The kids wolfed theirs down so all well there.
I had half a 4pinter of milk on the turn so i dusted off the redundant for the last few months slowcooker and have made a rice pudding .
The kids turned round to me at the dinner table and said this dinner is so much better since you made it yourself (how bad did that make me feel).

Tomorrow i'm using another bbq leftover of lamb steaks to make Lamb steaks with olive oil & garlic mash with grilled tomatoes that i searched and found a recipe for just so they wouldnt go to waste.

You lot need to keep me on the straight and narrow so i dont dwindle our savings away on wasted food.

    Leigh xx

P.s those few who may remember me cant possibly have missed how much i waffle!
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56

Welcome Leigh - this thread is marvellous - I find now if I come to think about throwing something away I think "Oops - can't do that as I'll have to admit to it on MSE!" Without question I've spent a heck of a lot less since I've been doing this so thanks to one and all for keeping me on the straight & narrow! OH keeps saying he's amazed how empty the fridge looks too!

Had feezer dinners tonight, with first spuds from allotment and some carrots that are on their last legs. Instead of chucking rest from bag I sliced them, blanched them and they are in freezer awaiting my next batch of soups/stew/curry. Chuffed. My budget on the GC thread is set at £200 for this month and I have 6 days and £11 left. Without this challenge and the GC thread I would have spent nearly double that I fear. If I can keep this up for the rest of the year I could clear my OD at this rate. Thanks everyone:beer:

I would keep it in the jars unopened - it'll easily last for Christmas.....unless eaten of course ;)

Many thanks for that Chris25 :T - wasn't too sure if it would keep till then :D.

Our fortnightly veg box arrived today - so we had a stir fry tonight using the other half of a pack of pigeon breasts that I started last night. Always like to use the veg in the least cooked way possible when it's so fresh. I'll call in at tesco on the way home tomorrow night - that way I can avoid OH coming with me which reduces the spend a lot! I shall have a browse through the storecupboard over the weekend too - might well make muffins depending on what I find! Saturday morning is the farmers market - for a change I have made a list and have plans to divide stuff up for freezing as soon as we get back, plus the inevitable batch cooking of bolognese sauce etc. We only have a farmers market within easy reach once a month now so have to make the most of it.

Time to go and have a dig in the freezer to decide what's for dinner tomorrow evening I think!

One tip I got when I was in college was to take some ice cream and your favorite chocolate bar and put in the microwave for a few seconds. So long as the ice cream is freezing cold / rock solid (and not the easy scoop kind) and the liqueurs quite warm they should melt over the ice cream and the ice cream should remain frozen. Hope you haven't had dessert yet!

Waste this week - one large swede that was hiding.

    Hello peeps :hello:

Any suggestions what I could make with the following, carrots / leeks / eggs / tomatoes / onions / mushrooms /potatoes.

Quiche or vegetable shepards pie may well spring to mind, but as we've had both those this week, I'm looking for an alternative

Any suggestions will be most welcome.
