I don't throw away anything if I can help it BUT...

What do I do with disastrous cooking attempts?:o

I don't mean efforts that are edible if drowned in tomato sauce, I mean the curry I left on too long and is now so bitter I choked on the first taste  Obviously I need to get better at cooking though

but I will join for the sake of eating things before they go off

I can't manage without my kitchen timer. there's one on the cooker too. I set the kitchen timer to go off part way through the combi microwave programme so that I can check progress. Or rather so that I remember to check progress.

Well, in keeping with the spirit of this thread, we shall tonight be having:-

..pork chops of indeterminate age discovered lurking in the nether regions of the freezer + cabbage that was hiding in the back of the fridge...gone yellow, but what the hey..it's a pretty colour! :)

    ...3 slices of bacon, also well past the sell by date...this will be chopped up, fried 'til crispy and added to the cabbage to spark it up;

...to this I will add mash made from dodgy looking sweet potato and a very dodgy, furry looking parsnip!

Normally, I would've chucked this stuff out...speshally the veg, but I'll give it a go!

Will post again tomorrow if I survive!!

editted to add; found a sorry looking leek too...this will also be cooked up and chucked on the plate. The only thing that'll be not out of date will be a drop of gravy to ease it all down...!!

My goodness it's appalling isn't it - according to the BBC people throw away 5500 WHOLE CHICKENS EVERYDAY.

Thanks for those who are joining the challenge with me.

I'm going to eat my wrinkled plums, stewed with porridge in the morning and my two bananas are going into a banana cake and the rhubarb is going to be jam tomorrow (after it has soaked in sugar over night). My DH is having a yoghurt with his lunch tomorrow and i'll have one for pudding after tea tonight.

So thats todays left overs sorted....but i've just realised i've 4 small packs of Tesco value ham to be eaten by 12th May...I better start thinking as i don't like ham so i wont cook a meal with it in....i know...i'll do pizza for sat tea so i can put ham on just one side of the pizza.

Good luck to anyone joining me...and thanks for your support.

    I've been Money Tipped!
:j The food dehydrator turned up! I have cleaned it up and will get it into use tomorrow drying some apple slices with a cinnamon and sugar coating (yum!)

I've managed to put 12 slices of cake (6 weetabix cake and 6 banana bread) into the freezer ready for the pack ups. Had some sad looking courgettes left so we are having courgette and tomato bake with a breadcrumb topping for dinner with some leftover hm hummous and veg sticks for a starter. Just off to cut up some surplus lemons and put some lemon slices onto a tray to openfreeze for cold drinks.

Tomorrow I must find a use for 3 beetroots that have been hanging about in the fridge for a while.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Like many others, I am really good now about not throwing food away. I have found it far more difficult though since I have had to forfeit my freezer (its in the garage due to us selling the house), I have taken my freezer contents around to the in-laws house, so we have a running inventory of the freezer which we are gradually whittling down.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I've been listening to the news today and it states that loads of food is being thrown away each day.....how many meals us O/S'ers could make from this food.

Anyway, i'm fairly good at planning and using my food up, but i am guilty of throwing away a small amount. Therefore i'm setting myself a challenge:-

Would anyone like to join me with this challenge?
I am using a food waste list on my kitchen wall This dramaticaly reduces the waste as every item-however small is listed-along with the value. It makes people "think".
I dont put names next to it-the fact that an item is on the list is generally enough. I reduced the waste from about £2 per week down to about 30p and my policy is "zero waste".
