    Fish pies made.
Took bag out of freezer and defrosted it turned out to be lamb ribs, which looked a bit tired to bbq. So, threw them in the potato water left after the fish pie mash (had a few bits of potato in it cos I had picked them out to put in the ricer) and cooked it with some celery, carrots, a turnip and a bit of left over salad (again) for good measure and broth mix.
    Will be tonight's tea :-)
Checked veg draw and I have broad beans, avacado and a turnip! Any ideas lol

Someone told me if you wrap celery in tinfoil it keeps longer, I tried this and it works brilliantly.Mine kept until I finished it, about ten days as I live on my own.

Hi all! Have been watching this thread with interest, as i'm quite loathe to throw food away - especially since my OH was made redundant and things have been rather tight.

Have 1/2 a tub of low fat cream cheese (cheese and chive) to use before Friday (i hate to use it after it's been open more than a week - Listeria etc). Toniwoty suggested a pea and onion pasta bake, but if anyone has any other suggestions it'd be v welcome (my OH says I cook too much pasta) - am wondering about stuffed cheesey rice peppers? x

I made some left over kipper into a lovely pate for ds's sandwiches last week, soft cheese and kipper 50-50 ish with salt, pepper and lemon juice.

Mix in with scrambled egg or quiche mixture

I had this left over last week - I heated it gently in a pan and added half a tine of tinned tomatoes (also leftover) and seasoned - it made a brilliant pasta sauce :D

Thank you! Think this would be suitable to freeze, when mixed up? x

The small person and I finished off a nearly empty jar of mushrooms in oil at the weekend. I have saved the oil on the basis that we will be able to use it for stirfrying in.

Do you put it in the fridge with the tinfoil on?

Thanks for the hint by the way!

Lunch today - was home too late to make sandwiches late night so picked up frozen package from the freezer. chicken and mushroom risotto. Not too bad except had it fresh Monday night, tuesday night and finished batch off yesterday lunch time. Had a chinese meal with rice last night (it was my turn to take mum out and she wanted chinese). Why did it have to be risotto and not pasta or HM soup! Can't freeze as previously frozen. Refuse to go and spend money for lunch and refuse to throw it away (athough I am tempted!)

OH well; if anyone sees a large lump of rice roaming around west yorks you can blame this thread...

Must label contents of freezer rather than "small tub means leftovers suitable for lunch"

I picked some more rhubarb from my allotment to make some more jam as its lovely and my lot have eaten half a jar already from the jar and a half i made last week.

I also picked some spinach as we have loads of it and its cooking nicely in my spag bog at the moment.

DD1 didn't eat her jelly in her lunch box as she said she was full up, so i've just made lunches for tomorrow and given it to her again (i'm assuming jelly is fine when its not in the fridge)?

Well its day 8 and i'm also looking in my fridge everyday and i find this really helps to stop me wasting anything.

I made some olive bread for my DD1 as she loves it but the rest of us hate olives. I cut the loaf up and froze it so she can have a slice when she wants it (this way i won't waste it).
