June 1st, off to a bad start, 1/3 of a tomato which had gone soft in the fridge, the other 2/3 is salvageable."I, on the other hand, am a fully rounded human being with a degree from the university of life, a diploma from the school of hard knocks, and three gold stars from the kindergarten of getting the sh*t kicked out of me." ~ Capt. Stick it in a spaghetti sauce. As long as it hasn't gone moudly then soft is not a problem.:footie:

Will remember that for next time but tonight and tomorrows main meals are already sorted and it's pasties tonight followed by pizza tomorrow...
Mind you, actually, that squishy tomato can be mashed up and added to the pizza topping can't it... It wont matter about being runny if it's then cooked.
Nice one HappyMJ! :T That's me excused todays faux-pas already!"I, on the other hand, am a fully rounded human being with a degree from the university of life, a diploma from the school of hard knocks, and three gold stars from the kindergarten of getting the sh*t kicked out of me." ~ Capt. Hi Sarsie
Luckily, i have the perfect thread to help you out - Leftovers, use it up , don't throw it in the bin :j
i think it's a matter of planning and having forward thinking - so when you buy those tomatoes and put them in the fridge, mentally it really helps to plan when to use them by and to check your fridge daily for foods showing signs of going off(and acting - freezing/preserving/using up)
I am very ashamed to say i cooked up a load of savoury rice on Friday and only found it today (busy few days) , so for safety reasons, in the bin it went
Love food hate waste - this thread and site should give you some great suggestions
if you ever have a "glut" of something, jump on here and use the search function, and I practically guarantee you will find a heap of ideas for using it up - ones you will never have thought of :j
i searched but couldn't find anything is a really good guide on teaching you searching skills . Taught me all i know
I'll add this to the first link later once you have more OS input
Thanks and good luck!:A

My fave foodsaver has to be the frittatta, with two hungry males in the house i just chuck anything and everything in.Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
No,we're not going to talk about that old chestnut, wastage of food.Ni,Instead lets talk about the different ways we use up that bit of pie left in the fridge, those two forlorn sausages, that half a carrot....
So today, nothing adventurous for me.Just plain old half a Fray Bentos Pie,Scallop potatoes made from Sundays' roasties,Pea & Carrot fritters, again from Sunday's left overs.
Over to you...:D0 -
Am going to throw my hat into the ring & try to join this challenge as we need a frugal June. Good start today as have made 2 veggie lasagnes & a veggie bolognese which used all sorts of veg in the fridge which were ready for using up, and a big pan of savoury mince using up yesterday's slow-cooked brisket & the liquid it cooked in plus more wobbly veg from the veg rack. So that's not a bad start for June 1st. Just another 29 days to go!
Today I have thrown away:
-2 celery leaves
-Some fat off the meat & some seeds that fell off the cobs I made up for tomorrow's packed lunches went out for the birds!2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (36/100) 3) The Shrinking of Foxgloves 6.5kg/30kg

yup - I'm up for this challenge...feeling pretty confident but this will certainly keep me on my toes
I find that casseroles / bubble and squeak / omelettes good ffor using up odds and ends. Any old stale crusts go down the yard for a treat for the horses or finely diced for the birds, the cat and dog wipe up any fatty meat offcuts or elderly bits of cheese. We are all members of the clean plate club so we don't tend to get many leftovers:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I would like to join in this month too. I've seen a lot more food going in the bin lately which should've been used up!

Good idea, I'll join in too - I've got half a dozen very over ripe bananas which I need to something with quickly though or I'm in for a quick fail
I don't usually think of giving it to the dog as wasting it, so I can see I'll need to up my game!0
