If you think banana's not going to get eaten, put it in the freezer whole (with the skin on). Take out of freezer and leave for about 10mins, then peel a little of the skin back and eat it as an banana ice! Got this out of a magazie's healthy eating section some time ago. This is best before they get too ripe.0

Hi all.
Bananas - there are loads of recipes on the web if you google, banana bread, banana cookies, banana and carrot cake. I'm sure there's a list on mse somewhere, although cannot remember where. Also would second freezing them - yum! You can also freeze them, peeled, in silver foil, then when they are frozen, cover them with melted choc and refreeze (you have to be quite quick!) Then you have yummy banana choc ices!!
Mandarins - we recently had about 5 leftovers too, and made mandarin cake. Wasn't sure how it would turn out but it was lovely, very light. The recipe I used was http://www.martha-rose-shulman.com/recipes/flourless_cake.html, but you will probably find others too if you google.
Enjoy, whatever you do with them!0 -

Dee
I'd mash it all up together and shallow fry it in a frying pan, turning the patty over so that both sides get crispy and slightly browned.
Nice served with a poached egg on top, and/or baked beans.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

You can avoid trying to flip the bubble and squeak over by putting it (still in the frying pan) under a pre-heated medium grill - just keep an eye on it!0

A few days ago I went through my store cupboards and left everything out on the worktop that was past or close to it's sell by date to remind me to use it all up.
For my dinner tonight I had a stir fry with pesto sauce and Chinese noodles. I used the last onion, the last tomato, 2 carrots, the last few pieces of cauliflower, bag of mushrooms from the freezer (frozen as were not going to get used up), a bag of frozen mixed peppers (chopped and frozen on the day I bought them), jar of pesto 3 months past it's sell by date, noodles 10 months past their sell by date and 4 chopped frankfurters out of a jar of 8, a week past sell by date and some black olives that had been open in the fridge for over a week though in brine.
It was yummy and I'm feeling very virtuous as most of the ingredients could have been wasted. I have three portions left and am keeping one for work tomorrow night shift and putting 2 in the freezer.
Tomorrow I'm using the other 4 frankfurters to make a casserole in the slowcooker.
This thread has been wonderful and full of ideas. I cannot remember the last time I threw any food away.0 -
Cooked jacet pots the other night and nobody wanted them last minute invite out, put 2 in fridge and took one to work, was very impressed my 16 year old daughter actually used them yesterday!Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
