I don't know! Apparently it's the citric acid in the coke which works - does lemonade have citric acid in the ingredients?
It's phosphoric acid in coke that removes limescale from loosCitric acid isn't a strong enough acid to do that.

Had some carrots here that really needed to be used.
So hey presto have made some carrot buns:grouphug:0 -
I wanted to share this as I'm quite pleased with myself.
My family waste a lot of food and I'm trying to get them to cut down. Times are too hard for that type of nonsense.
Anyway, earlier in the week I came downstairs to see my mum throwing away perfectly good carrots because they look funny.
So first of all I made some muffins
Some carrot and parsnip soup
Then some Jamaican style carrot juice
After all this, all I had left was this from the juice:
I thought about what I could use it for and then remembered the veggie burger recipes from a thread on here.
I mixed this up with some lentils, mixed seeds, and stuffing.
Et voila!
Pretty good going don't you think?Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
That is fantastic, not bad at all for a bunch or carrots that your mum said "looked funny" not so funny looking now, more yummy looking, well done you!0

Well done Guapa! Now thats impressive! Muffins look fab.
I tried to make parsnip crisps last night with 'dodgy' parsnips and they left a lot to be desired!
Keep up the good work! x :T0 -
Wow- VERY impressive :T
I have carrots in the fridge that look a lot funnier0 -

Well done :T especially on the carrot pulp - I use vegetable pulp sieved out from making soup to add body to pasta sauces
I'll add this to the Less Waste thread that Essex-H refers to, to keep all ideas together

I didn't have a great week on the less waste front, as I only worked out that some veg stuff was the source of an odd smell too late to rescue it. I don't think anyone could come up with something edible for a mouldy cucumber, some mouldy courgette and a bag of salad that was kind of yellow liquidy on the inside ... unless they were homicidal, that is. But I had a couple of good moments.
I was making a tomato soup last night using a tin of tomatoes and some bits & pieces, and when there wasn't enough tomato-eyness, I skinned and chopped some real tomatoes that were on the turn. Had the soup with the end of the fromage frais I used for a potato & onion tart earlier in the week.
We had one meal entirely of leftovers - the end of the potato & onion tart, and a manky cauli done with a three cheese sauce', ie, the ends of cheddar, parmesan and stilton. And tonight, I'm doing curry night: the meat curry is last week's takeaway and the veg curry will use up some odds and ends of veg, the last of the parboiled potatoes and, oh joy, reduce my stock of tinned coconut milk from 7 to 6 cans!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
