Sorry olliebeak, that is an insult to a Cornishwoman. NO mash or carrot ever in a cornish pasty. Sorry, I know I shouldn't shout but us Cornish are very proud of our pasties, and indeed very particular about what goes in them.

( Mind you your version does sound good when there is only a teeny bit of leftover meat to "do" something with)

oops - very sorry, balmaiden! No insult intended  - I should have put 'very like what is sold around here as Cornish Pasties' - which I know is nothing like authentic ;). But, like you say, it's very tasty when faced with hungry kids, small amount of left-overs and hardly any money :j!

I've just found a massive bunch of flat leaf parsley in the back of the fridge! I've meal planned for the rest of the week and parsley is not an ingredient I'll be using. Any ideas for something I can do with it and maybe freeze? Thanks.

You can shred the parsley and chuck it in a box and pop it in the freezer.. I buy parsley in massive batches from the market.. I pull the leaves from the stems and put the stems in a bag chopped into bits inthe freezer (i freezer them initially flat so that they are easy to pull out once i pop into the bag). The leaves i have a big parsley box and whenever i need them for soup or pasta sauce etc a nice handful comes out..

We had roast chicken on Sunday night, loads of meat on it. I stripped the chicken yesterday, put the bigger bits of meat aside, used the carcass to make stock and then turned the stock & smaller chunks of meat, couple of potatoes and a bayleaf into chicken soup. Perfect for my daughter who was off sick with a sore throat! She had it for 3 meals as it was all she could manage. Now left with the bigger chunks of meat - may have to freeze them as my plan to use them for dinner last night went out the window - I was so bored at home I made a huge spag bol!

  • Had some lovely chicken soup today for lunch from Sunday's chicken carcass. You can't beat it in this weather!

Used up the celeriac from the weekend and added to the vegetables in a lamb stew in the SC today.

The leftover portion of fish pie from last night has gone in the freezer for Dad one night when we are out.

    .

saw a recipe yesterday where you use celeriac with cream instead of potatoes in a gratin - yum must try it. :)

I made a bean soup today with cans forgotten at the back of the cupboard. Problem is I now have in the fridge: bowl of chicken from Sunday, small bowl of bolognese from Monday and reheated on Tuesday, bowl of shepherds pie which was cooked a month ago and defrosted and cooked again yesterday, all still waiting to be used up! Can I make a giant hash, I wonder?!!!
