In my kitchen is a three-quarters full jar of red soggy pickled cabbage left over from Christmas, does any one have any suggestions what I might do with it please, I keep trying to hide it at the back of the cupboard but somehow it always manages to work its way to the front again and keeps giving me accusing looks.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Woofles, I've got two jars of it which I pickled myself two or three weeks ago but mine is still quite crunchy. I'm using it up in salads and to perk up sandwich fillings, especially with some nice mature cheddar cheese.0

Hi everyone
My DD often leaves cereal and milk in her bowl after breakfast - regardless of how little we put in there to start with. I did wonder about using it in muffins but wouldn't know how to adjust other quantities. Any ideas?

Hello, this is my 1st post so I'm not sure if this will work or not!I've recently brought the thrifty book and I'm loving it.Yest we had jacket potatoes for lunch with the leftover spag bol from the night before.Last week I made a stew, the skins of the carrots were going mouldy (normally I would freak out and chuck them)but I peeled them and chopped-yum yum.I made a ham and leek pie (ham was going out of date)and we got 3 meals out of it,so overall I'm quite chuffed. But I'm still learning compared to most of you!:female:Our 2 gorgeous little girls born 2006 and 2010

Well done, Twinkle :T - and welcome to the 'Use-It-Up Club'!
When my kids were small, one of my fave left-overs was for a Monday tea. Left-over mash mixed with any l/o carrot&swede and a bit of chopped up meat (useful if not enough for bubble&squeak) all mixed together. Make some shortcrust pastry and cover a couple of old saucers with pastry, mash mixture and a pastry lid. They were amazingly like cornish pasties! One saucer was enough for 2 kids with some cheapie noodles as they'd had a lunch in school.

Sorry olliebeak, that is an insult to a Cornishwoman. NO mash or carrot ever in a cornish pasty. Sorry, I know I shouldn't shout but us Cornish are very proud of our pasties, and indeed very particular about what goes in them.
( Mind you your version does sound good when there is only a teeny bit of leftover meat to "do" something with)Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
Thanks Olliebeak!I'm just starting out but I'm quite excited by the challenge.Your recipie sounds delish, thank you for that:female:Our 2 gorgeous little girls born 2006 and 2010

I put a good spoonful of ginger marmalade in our christmas pud this year - it was lovely but not too overpowering. Not suggesting you make a christmas pud, but I reckon it would be good in a fruit based cake or tea bread. I also find that rhubarb and ginger go well together, so a spoonful stirred into a ruhubard crumble or pie would probably work well. It might make a nice glaze for home baked ham......GC May £178/£250 NSD0
