If your leftover bolognese sauce consists of just the sauce, could you make up some mashed potatoes, and finely chopped cooked, vegetables, mix it into the bolognese sauce and put in a dish to make a savoury pie. Sprinkle some grated cheese on the top and bake until the topping is crispy brown.

it was the lovefoodhatewaste website bolognese recipe, cooked 1kg mince with chopped up carrot and courgette, fed 5 with it but ended up with less than thought I would! Thanks for the ideas, will do the baked potato one this afternoon and will try the savoury pie another day! Thank you!

A kilo of mince only fed 5

I add red lentils in mine (cook it for a bit longer so the lentils turn to orange mush and they are less obvious), I also add some oats in too, mushrooms, chopped pepper etc if I have them - I usually get 6 servings out of 500g mince.

Does anyone have any ideas what to do with some fudge that is just too sweet to eat (and I am a big fudge lover!)?

Chop it into tiny squares and serve with vanilla ice cream as a sundae type thing?

Ahhh a misunderstanding - the 1kg was supposed to make 2 meals, but fed 5 first night and remainder needs padding to feed 4 tonight. Didn't explain very well. Still, means my portions need some work!:o

I see - well that's not too bad though ;) A couple of handfulls of oats are good as they turn to mush, don't take too long to cook, and soak up the juice so you get a thicker, less runny sauce.

My best so far is chilli with mushrooms, green peppers, oats, lentils and lots of kidney beans - made 8 portions out of 400g - with the extra beef stock cube for taste OH didn't even notice how little actual meat there was ;)

  • will remember the stock cube trick newlywed as my husband did moan about the lack of meat in out last bolgenese.

only 2 of us and use 400g of mince and put in toms, peppers (2-3 whole peppers chopped), mushrooms, onions and carrots and this did use 3 meals each plus 3 lunches for me when used to do 2 meals each and 2 lunches for me so stretched it that bit further and he moaned but he ate it!!
