  • I just put some yogurts in the freezer, dated 24 dec...I tasted a pot and it was like fruity natural yogurt but not unpleasant. Its just some tesco fruit flavour yogs. Can I do anything with them? Could I make yogurt?

I put yoghurt in scones instead of the milk and eggs - 8oz self raising flour, rub in 2oz butter, stir in 1 heaped tablespoon of sugar and some raisins then stir in the yoghurt. Can't give an exact amount though - I just know when it's turning into dough. Sorry.
  • "Veg box stew" tonight - venison from the freezer, with the last of the turnips, leek and potatoes from last weeks veg box. Managed to use up some carrot too - I have problems getting through the carrots from the box as OH doesn't like them. I also threw in half a chicken stock cube and half a tin of sweetcorn left from last nights soup. The stock for both last nights soup and tonights stew was made using the veg trimmings for the week (thanks to Elliebee for convincing me to try that idea!).

Tomorrow night will be beef curry with rice. That will see off the rest of the weeks mushrooms, the last green pepper, and also the remains of a tub of creme fraiche which has nbeen in the freezer.

  • Swede - steam, mash, add salt and pepper and double cream. Serve in china dish. Looks posh but isn't

I cook swede with my potatoes and then mash them up together to make the topping for my Shepherds Pie [allow some extra time for the swede to cook through]

A favourite in our family even small children love it, is equal quantity of swede and carrot cut into dice, boiled until soft and then mashed with plenty of butter, salt and pepper. Mmmmm!

I find yogurts don't go off very easily. We always seem to have some past their sell-by date and while I wouldn't feed them to infants for instance, I'm quite happy to eat them myself. I'm careful on the first taste, though, just in case the seal has broken and they aren't right, but that's very rarely happened.
I don't think you can use them as a starter for a new batch unless they are live yogurt, because they don't have the necessary live culture in. However, in the past I've stuck lolly sticks through the lids of yogurt pots before freezing and they make great little ice lollies later. So maybe you could use them as the centre of baked alaska or something?
I don't know what else you can do once they've been frozen, it's a bit like having bananas, isn't it? There are always some going past their best that suddenly no-one seems interested in.:D
(Wonders if you can make banana bread using yogurt...?)

Perhaps you could mix the yogurt with some stewed fruit or layer up with cereal and berries/nuts in a sundae dish to have for breakfast?
