I used to do savoury pancakes with left over bolognaise (I wonder why I no longer do that ??) I made pancakes (bit of a faff) allowing about 2 per person, then stuffed them with left over meat mix, rolled them up, put in serving dish, poured cheese sauce over top with bit more cheese on top and baked till hot and nice. Sort of canneloni really. No one can see how much meat there isn't in the pancakes !

Does anyone have any ideas what to do with some fudge that is just too sweet to eat (and I am a big fudge lover!)?

Bake some cookies using fudge squares instead of chocolate chips?

Liver, bacon & onions tonight - and still got a couple of rashers of streaky left - I'm doing veggie soup tomorrow night though so those will be chopped up and fried off to go into that when i serve it. Actually, I think there's half a slice of ham left from the lunches today so that will probably go in as well. So that's Ham, Bacon & veg soup then! I'll do toast with it using the last of the loaf from Sunday evening. It's been in a zip-lock bag in the larder and won't be fresh enough to eat as it is but toasted will be just fine.

some leftover bolognese, am struggling for something to pad it with to feed 4 children this afternoon.

i often put the bolognese into tortilla / chapati wraps, roll up, put in a baking dish and cover with some grated cheese. oven for 10 - 15 mins and nice mexican style meal. though i ofen add chilli power/beans, you dont have to. also, chapatis are really easy to make with just water and fine flour so no real expense there if you dont have any tortilla's in.

A variation on a jamie oliver recipe, cut the scones into small slices and spread each slice with marmalade/apricot jam etc and then cover with custard and put into oven on a low heat until its hot through and serve.

yum. that sounds great. thank you for the idea, i've done that with the end of a panetone but never considered scones! ta!

Scone update: I didn't have any jam or mamalade but buttered the scones, cut them up, poured over the custard and baked in the oven. DD was in heaven!

Bolognese - thanks for all the suggestions! I chopped up some bacon, fried it quickly then added that to the bol, plus some passata, gave to the children with baked potatoes as suggested, husband ate the remainder so managed to feed 5 with the leftovers in the end.

Now have roast chicken plus carcass to deal with - probably get stock from carcass and make witches' knitting for the children (grate carrot, fine chop spring onions, add chicken and stir fry with some soy sauce, eat with noodles)

  • when i make sponge cakes, when they are cool, i trim all the edges including the top, so it is easier to put butter cream in and ice the top, then i use the trimmings that are left - some go in the base of trifle, with any leftover fruit, put in a jelly, then for pudding that night we have the other left over sponge, with jam and custard or a blancmange powder and i always keep some of the custard back, which then goes on top of the fruit/jelly/sponge to make a trifle for the next nights pudding.
so out of 1 cake, you can have 2 free puddings as well
  • we had chicken curry last night and husband did me a box for lunch as well and i couldnt eat all of mine last night so had about 4 table soons of rice and currry left so thats in a pot in fridge and tommorow night will be jacket potatoes and husband can have that leftover with his and i will have baked beans with mine as he hates baked beans.
