Can I ask folk to make older children aware of the potential health risks associated with frozen food?
My [adult] offspring hosted an impromptu bbq last night & most of a large box of burgers was put back in the freezer AFTER they had thawed. Luckily I was discussing how to use the left-overs this morning, or I would have assumed these killers were safe & dished 'em up without a second thought_pale_
It completely threw me, to think that I had missed something so important from their kitchen education:oFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

It's too big to do as a normal stuffed one but I think I might bake half of it off with some savoury mince for one night this week. Hopefully the rest will go into stir-fry, etc etc! Can anyone offer any ideas as to the best way of freezing it if I can't use it all up? My gut feeling is that it would go very watery, and that perhaps there may be little point in trying? If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Had a handful of redcurrants (last picking), a few raspberries. some surplus gooseberry syrup (drained off from an earlier batch of stewed gooseberries for a G. Fool, and half a tub of mascapone cheese lurking in the fridge. Have simmered the redcurrants & raspberries together with a little sugar, whizzed everything else together and mixed in with a lime jelly. It hasn't quite set yet, but has a really nice fruity flavour.0

I have a bag of oat bran in the cupboard for which I need some new uses. I was thinking some sort of bread (which can be made BY HAND! I'm a beginner at bread baking and don't have a machine). Also, some sort of plain (ie no sugar or fruit) scone. There are tons of recipes online, but if a kind Oser had a well-tested one or two, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you!

My best 'use up' recently was mixed fruit crumble with oaty topping......
Filling - 3 sticks rhubarb (given by neighbour & I forgot to use before we went away for weekend, so a bit soft), 1 tin blackcurrants (2 months OOD - given to us by friend's mum who was moving house - got a great bag of stuff from her food cupboard which she didn't want to take!) 1 tin pears (ditto - 3 months OOD, but tin in good condition, contents smelled fine...), 2 eating apples which no-one liked the taste of - a bit too sharp.
Topping - 1 packet pastry mix, 2 months OOD (my fault this one - bought for making 'emergency' mince pies at christmas whcih never got made), handful of porridge oats, 1 sachet of 'oats so simple' (from back of cupbard - maybe OOD - kids went off it just as I'd bought a load on offer! - typical), few spoonfuls dark brown sugar.
Chopped up all fruit (drained juice from tins & kids drank it diluted instead of squash!), mixed up all topping, baked in moderate oven until it looked cooked.
Kids & DH all loved it and asked me to make it again!......little did they know, HAHA!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

It might have already been mentioned but there is no need to throw away old bread. Either make breadcrumbs or put it straight in the freezer and use it as 'toasting' bread. Takes a couple of minutes longer but not really noticable0
