I made a great looking steak casserole thingy & fancied putting a suet crust on top to make a 'pie'.....HOOOOOOOG mistake!

Think the suet was a tad past it's best, but hey, we all slept ok & have had breakfast this morning so couldn't have been that leathal:D

So a gap in the freezer where the meat & chopped mushrooms were living, a tin of chopped toms, some dried out spring onions & a good splosh of the stock from Pup's beef bones for the gravy....Good haul eh:p

As long as they don't smell manky :D - I work on the theory that if it's been kept properly in the fridge and it smells okay it's probably got up to another three/four days after the 'use by' - and we're all still here to tell the tale....:rotfl:

I've got some bean sprouts (use by 22.7) that I'm using with some elderly steak from the freezer and a pepper that I found lurking in the veg. drawer - I'm thinking chinese style dinner tonight.....

I have some leeks that need to be used up does anyone know if I can freeze them:confused:
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!
    JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD
  • I have done this before. I just sliced them and threw them in a freezer bag, but I did use them quite quickly. I think if you're looking to freeze them long term, you would have to blanche them.

I slice and freeze leeks in a freezer bag - didn't bother blanching. Just cooked straight from frozen. I do this with onions too.
