I don't see how it can be the modem at fault when you can't even communicate with your new router with two different PC's using the Ethernet ports. Even if you are supplied with a new modem, you will still have that problem to sort out!

but surely if we cannot get internet on just the desktop using the ethernet port there must be a problem?

plug it direct into modem, and try a release and renew

If you forget the existing modem for a minute, why can't you communicate with your new router with either of your PC's? i.e. log-in to the configuration screens. I think that you need to sort out logging into the new router with your PC's and that would at least prove your Ethernet ports are set up and working correctly.

hey ... just to let you know that we did actually have a problem with our Ethernet port, we have swapped modems now though so the WAN light does light up! Just having issues finding the network key now! thanks for all your help

ye i can get into 192.168.0.1 however now the WLAN lights not showing up and i cant see the connection on my laptop??
