If you enter an incorrect address into IE, it may say Page cannot be displayed etc. but it should not close. You must enter the correct IP of the router to log-in i.e. http://192.168.1.1
No other numbers will work!chillerman wrote:PS - the supplied instructions only tell us to insert the CD-Rom
Put the CD into the computer, if it auto runs, exit any program and use Windoze Explorer to look on the CD for the User Manual. The user manuals supplied by D-Link are very comprehensive and explain how to set-up everything in great detail. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Are you trying to set up the router on the new laptop or the existing PC ?
Are you now using Ethernet Cables for all your connections or USB?ITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0 -
ok, this is the exact message that comes up when i type in http://192.168.0.1 - which is the IP address on the bottom of the router :
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Debsy42 - We are trying to get the router working on the existing desktop so that I will be able to get the internet on my laptop, upstairs without wires.
To get internet on the desktop we have to keep the USB plug in, however when we plug the Ethernet cable in, we do not have any connection to the internet at all.Nice to save.0 -

So are you entering http://192.168.0.1 into your browser while the USB cable is still connected?
When you connect the Ethernet cable from your PC to the router, does the relevant LAN LED light up?
Have you found the User Guide yet? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
quick set up guide.
1. disconnect your modem and your wireless router inc power cables so you will have nothing connected at all.
2. insert the ethernet to your modem and into the appropriate port in the wireless router.
3. insert the ethernet cable to your pc and into the appropriate port on the wireless router.
4. power on the modem, wait a few secs and then power on the router. Wait a few secs more.
5. open the web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 to get access to the router set up.......
By the way.... i dont suppose you have the lan disabled in your bios by any chance, if you do you wont be able to connect to the router at all. You see a mate of mine in plymouth had a similar problem and then rang me. He had been on telephone support trying to set his wireless up but couldnt. Within minutes i had him on the net.....i built his pc and as he didnt have broadband i disabled the lan in his bios, so enabling it cured that part of his problemI have nothing better to do!!!!

Heya,
Yes, we have tried entering it when it is both in and out, still no luck.
Secondly, everything lights up as instructed, apart from the WAN light.
I have been looking through the User Guide, however if the computer will not let me type in the address into the internet i am not sure how to get around it
PS - where do i find the "bios"??!!Nice to save.0 -
As your modem has an Ethernet output, why don't you use that. First connect it directly to your PC and you should still have internet access. Then disconnect the Ethernet cable from the PC and plug it into the router along with another Ethernet cable from the PC to the router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

when you unplugged the cables from the modem you would have noticed that on the bottom right task bar it says a network is unplugged. can you check this happens first
I have nothing better to do!!!!

espresso - thats what the call centre people told us to do, and it still doesn't work :S
Startrekker - Yes, it does say that, what shall i do next?Nice to save.0 -
You need to connect the Ethernet from the modem to the PC and get internet access working using the Ethernet cable. If you can't do that you won't be able to connect to the router using Ethernet cable to configure it.
Right click on the LAN icon in the system tray, Open Network Connections. Highlight your Network Card and then Select Change settings of this connection. Highlight TCP/IP and then Properties. Have you got both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server automatically boxes checked? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
